As I sit here I feel I have to whinge about the child playing a computer game with blaring noise / music on the macs in the lounge. Given there isn't a business lounge in ADL and some of us like to do some work...is this appropriate...should I say something...the staff dont seem to care? Or am I just a 35yo come 80yo man?

Must admit I have not struck this before. It certainly would annoy me. A quiet word to Qantas staff would be approriate, and you would hope they would take action to ensure the noise was stopped. In fact I am not sure children are allowed to use the computers without adult supervision. ;)

Yes, you probably are getting old, I know things I did only a few years back now annoy the hell out of me if others do it.

But a quite word is the most appropriate method, or failing that (and depending on the size the kid) walk over and pull the power cord out)

From memory some lounges have no kids policies on PCs, which frankly I agree with despite being a parent, CNS is one!

This type of subject verges on the children in business class thing in my mind. Some places and spaces are clearly adult centric, and I'd class the lounge as one of those.

I had the same experience that you describe in a hotel executive lounge at about 9am in the morning. Small child having enormous fun making outrageous amounts of noise (speakers turnedup full) from the lounge PC. Was about to speak with lounge staff when Dad came over and fixed the problem, thank goodness.

Lounge staff should really, in my view, be a bit more proactive.

Some years ago, all the XP boxes were defaulted to "mute".

One needed to "unmute" if they wanted sound.

Was not straight foward either ... I did it by to creating a dummy macro using Excel with the line:

Shell("cmd.exe /c mmsys.cpl")

and running it.;)

Show off! :p

I rarely use the PC's (Macs) in the QP, but I do agree they should be either adults only, or children can only use them when accompanied by an adult.

Agree with that, if the little princess uses one I sit right there next to her and read the paper.

I am surprised that the Club people at the front counter didn't do something. They can be quite officious with well behaved adults! We had some very officious people in the Perth club last weekend.

You should try the bar staff and ordering a double scotch in PER!

In Ade I try to work down the far end, past the bar, I prefer to work a long way away from the computers and general noise that is at the other end.

anyway its closer to the booze, makes the work go faster.;)

Now you mention it, the Perth bar staff were giving this guy some angst while we were there. For the first time in my life I didnt have any champers as I was still recovering from the night before, so I didnt get to try out their service.
