Looking for comments on getting taxis from Athens airport to Piraeus- understand it can be an experience?
Thinking about booking a private taxi instead?

I've used the metro before. Not too bad although the carriages are a bit dirty at times and the transfer between lines may involve escalator and walking (not really sure ... been a couple of years). Wouldn't trust taxi drivers there IMHO.

Dad and I used the bus to/from ATH airport. Can get very full.

Metro is also fairly easy to use as well although there could be some walking changing lines.

I try to avoid taxis especially in Greece.

We used a bus a few years ago, pretty straightforward, but I think we were given some advice when we booked ferry/hotel at the travel desk at the airport (it was an unplanned stay in Athens due to a snap strike canceling our flight to Santorini) *angry symbol*

good luck changing metro lines or even getting on a train at Monastiraki station with luggage during peak hours (and by 'peak' i mean any time people are awake)...you need the green line at Monastiraki which is always very busy...unless price is an issue you should take a taxi - they drive like maniacs but the comfort and ease will be worth it...if you simply say "piraeus 50 euro", someone will be happy to grab that fare

another option (and my personal fave) is to get the blue train line from the airport to the city and get off at Syntagma...once above ground, head to the Grande Bretagne for a rest, a coffee, or a meal, and then grab a taxi to Pireaus from the many which will be waiting outside

Athens only has 3 train lines and it is a cheap way for people to get around...it is ALWAYS packed and (without getting into the culture of the city too much) more dangerous for tourists than any other mode of public transport

ps...if you have time up your sleeve and are considering spending it at "the port", DON'T...Pireaus is a poophole and you'll want to get on your ferry ASAP

Definitely agree with this part, although I did find a great cafe there.

Don't recall the metro being super busy. I did use the lines extensively while there... but it was at the end of the year, so locals might have been in the Christmas spirit and on holidays etc.
