Hi all

Long time reader, first time poster. Current QF Gold (SG).

I am seeking some advice re best mileage/sc itinerary for an international trip in Sept 05. I need to be in LA for one week (12/9 - 16/9) for a conference. I am considering various options such as RTW Business, circle fares, etc. My goal is to get the maximum mileage/sc for the trip at the best $$/sc yield of course.

I wondered if anyone has done this before, and can offer me some advice/links/whatever? StevePER's SCC only appears to cover domestic + NZ routes.

I would also appreciate suggestions re best place to purchase One World intl business class fares.

Thanks in advance
Stephen

A OneWorld Explorer in business class can easily get you enough SC's to attain Platinum Status in one trip. I just completed a DONE4 (4 continent business class RTW) and earned 1230 SC's and only used 16 or my available 20 sectors.

I'll be doing another next month. Its the best value SC run I know, but at over $10K its not in everyone's league, especially if you are paying the fare yourself.

By the way, I managed to get every flight on the trip except one in the highest class cabin on the plane. Appart from BA JFK-LHR in Club World class, it was the equiv of a AONE4, including QF First LAX-JFK, LHR-MEL, and MEL-SYD, and I even scored CX First HKG-LAX (that's another story).

The routing options depend on what you are trying to achieve, including:
  • Maximise Status Credits
  • Maximise QF FF Points
  • Minimise flying time
  • Maximise comfort (ie routes with Skybeds etc)
  • Minimise time away from home
  • Must include certain places
  • Prefer to exclude certain places

Check whether you can get discounted flights through the conference (or through work). Some have negotiated big discounts, others no discount at all (or no preferred airline agreement).
