I currently have the ANZ Qantas Visa and am looking at taking up Citibanks offer and transferring the balance over and closing ANZ card.

Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of? Will my current FF points earned through ANZ be lost if I transfer then close the account? Will the transfer be automatic or do I need to do this myself?

I am very new to all this, so your help is highly regarded and appreciated.

Welcome to the board dexter. I can't help you with all of you questions though. I cancelled my ANZ card and signed up with Commonwealth's Gold Visa, paying out my balance. ANZ transferred all the points to my FF account and also did a direct debit the next month for a $25 bill that came through after I cancelled the card, than transferred the points for that as well. I'd had a direct debit from my Commonwealth savings account to pay the card off in full each month, so the ANZ kept that open for the straggler's bill. After that I haven't seen an errant debits.

Although my circumstances were slightly different, it looks like ANZ do transfer points after the account is closed.

I gave my ANZ Qantas Telstra Visa the chop about 5 years ago (due to their selectively targetting me to pay a higher fee than anyone I knew - and no I've never been bankrupt or even not paid off my card on time). All I can add is that several years afterwards I still received statements of my points - I'd transferred as many as possible to QFF but there is always some residual as you had to transfer in lots of 1000 points. So the points lived on after the death of the card. You could always transfer them to QFF at any time as I understand it. A couple of years back QFF offered a 25% bonus for transfers so I moved a heap from my current cards then.
I've been with CBA Mastercard True Rewards or whatever it's called since it started and it has been fine.
