I have made a bit of a fool of myself by booking a JASA status run for a date in early September when my diary was free. I have since discovered that the date I picked is Father's day. My wife is not impressed with the idea of me nicking off for the day.

I have read threads about steps to change flights for ASAs which included details about fees and restrictions, tips and tricks. I didn't get a clear idea of the way to do it, however.

I am lowly PS with a QP membership, but no elite status to help pull strings. Can someone advise me the best way to change the flights with no (or minimal) penalties? Is it phone, web, in person at the QP desk?

FWIW, the flights are normal domestic JASAs, booked into U according to the booking on the Qantas website. Points+minimal pay. The terms say they are flexible and able to be changed or cancelled. I can't see anything there about penalties or fees.

Am I correct in assuming that any change will need to be into a fare of equivalent or less points cost?

Ring QF up and they will change them for no charge, dont do it online. There is a good chance that you will have to chase points etc.

Just to reinforce. Be sure to ask for the points to be refunded if you cancel. They may offer a cash/voucher refund which is very poor value. Provided you haven't taken any of the flights you can get the points back. Do this on the phone.

Oh, and it's father's (not mothers) day, what could be better for you then letting you go off for a day. ;)

Good point, but I don't think it will fly with MrsAdamR ;)

Anyway, my father-in-law refuses to cook the traditional barbie (any day, not just Fathers Day), so I am close to indispensable for that day.

Cancelled a JASA about 3/4 weeks ago with no issue. Full refund of points with no refund fee. At the time the staff member on the phone had to check with supervisor (as she wanted to charge to the points cancellation fee) and came back with 'we;ve reviewed our policies, now no fee for JASA cancellation'.

So, cancel over the phone and points refund should be sweet.
