Hi, I am new , thanks in advance for the great info that will be shared. My family of 5 are going on a teacher exchange program & am trying to get to LA between 30/12/2014 and 2/1/2015 to spend 2 weeks in the southern states before heading north to Canada for 2015. Another ideas how to do this would be appreciated. Fijian air is the leader contender at the moment for the 2/1/2015.

Welcome carnival.

I'm not much help with getting to the US in peak periods, but good luck with your search!

Cheers

Departing from which Australian city, and flying which class? Assuming SYD in Economy, FJ is definitely your best option at the moment with fares hovering around $1150-$1200. Air China has similar pricing if you wanna go the long way. Availability is spread across that week; do you have any preferred airline or alliance?

Also, if you're heading to the southern states, Dallas may be a better option depending on where you're going (and honestly I'd do anything to avoid LAX...)

Hi carnival,

Welcome to AFF. :D

I would also go with Fiji Airways unless you find something much cheaper.

Would agree with the others regarding FJ. I have just finished my bookings with FJ for BNE-NAN-LAX-NAN-BNE in J for just on $3500pp, best on QF was around $7500. Not quite as direct but for a saving of 50% its worth it even after taking an overnighter in NAN both ways

That's a good saving eric, though of-course the OP will possibly be flying Y. Overnight? The flights I checked indicated a 3hr layover only...maybe it's just the days you booked. FJ would also be my first choice.

Now here's a thought. If the OP is spending what, a year or more on teacher exchange in Canada, it should be relatively easy to visit the sthn US states at any time, just a short flight really. Have you been to Fiji before carnival? Get away from the resorts and you can have a great vacation in Fiji and arrive relaxed in Canada. Maybe do a short 2-3 day city visit at point of entry to US.

As aamslfc says it might help if you let us know departure city? You can also customise your profile with your location if you wish.

BTW, welcome to AFF carnival. :)

If flying via Fiji I can suggest some good alternatives to a resort vacation. ;)

The overnights are my idea, not a necessity
