actually…. just checking the rules it seems to be ‘per direction’ per ticket. So if you made a change to the outbound and inbound it would be $200. Which makes sense I guess since awards are priced that way.

The problem with cancelling is that there’s no guarantee the awards will come back.

The operator might have been confused, you’re not actually paying to change each sector, you’re paying a change ‘fee’. You can have multiple changes within that ‘fee’.

If you are landing multiple changes it might be worthwhile paying the extra for a flexible award.

Just pointing out these redemption opportunities for two seats close to Xmas for anyone who is interested.

They involve a long wait in Singapore but flight price is a little over $2k (when cost of buying miles is taken into account) one way for anyone who might be interested.

The difference between the flex and non-flex is generally the price of the cancellation fee. I just pay for the lowest, and if i need to change it’s $100, or $150 for cancel.

If you were putting in placeholders, not intending to fly, and change for something else later, more than once, the flex might be an option.

Oh, I paid for the full flex once, as full flex got you access to the AC Signature Lounge with private dining. Unfortunately, i also cancelled - free of charge! - to take a last trip AA first across the atlantic and their flagship dining.

It’s only for the Air Canada signature lounge. For all other airlines and lounges it’s the standard business class offering, whatever that might be (plus any status you might have).

Domestic fares in canadia can be expensive, and often don’t include baggage, which adds to the cost.

All you can do with the above is price your flights with and without award tickets. Google flights is about the best option. But will also free up other carriers who might be significantly cheaper than air canadia.

Are you intending to stop in all those cities? If not, it might be cheaper to get United from BNE through to your first canadian stop.

Air canada award flights will be dynamically priced. Which can make them expensive, but they will include bags.

The only option is to compare the price of an award against your revenue options to decide best value.

AC points cost roughly 2c aussie each during a 100% bonus round.

Quick question on Aeroplan. If you buy points does it count as activity so points won't expire? We live in Australia but it will be over 18mths before we take another flt so happy to buy some points to keep the points we have active...thanks

Yes - buying points will extend your expiry date - you can also credit Virgin flights to Aeroplan (which will extend your expiry date).
