OK. Time for another drinks /food night in London.

Location is yet to be determined, but location will be in central London.

Kick off will be roughly 6.30pm.

Attending:
Flashware (and possibly +1)
Mella2007 (+1)
Mal (+0 )

If you are in London at that time, come along. Always a good night. :)

I will miss this one by about 12 days. The WACA are asking whether we want to do a social activity in conjunction with the Lords test while we are all in London.
Would that mean a good London pub/meal that you could help me suggest to them?

Cove, It is very hard to suggest pubs in London. Really does depend on price tolerance, transport options and original location, time (and day) of dining and also food preference.

One of the core issues is that many pubs are under the control of their brewer owners (or professional pub management groups) so the menu for many pubs, especially in the centre of London is basically a cut and paste of the pub three doors down (prices and decor do vary though). The vast majority of pubs also don't really prepare their own food but rather reheat/fry prepared meals. (Some of these are very nice though)

As for location for AFF July drinks, I do have a destination in mind on Old Street, Central London but need to have a wander past at night to make sure it will be suitable.

Did you check a location Mal?? Worst case my hotel has a small restaurant/bar which would suit me ok too

In London is there a common lager beer that is like a Cascade Premium or Crown that is quite drinkable at English pubs?
I have never been keen to drink stuff that tastes like it has been drunk before!

Sorry to not have confirmed location earlier. Do have a place in mind:

The William Blake
174–180 Old Street
London

On Monday nights, they have 50% off meals. Pub closes at 11:00 (last drinks call probably 10:45, drink-up allowed until 11:20 before everyone gets kicked out ... but I doubt that will be a worry!)

Haven't had a chance to return on a Monday night to see how busy the place is though ...

Hmm. My personal fave is Fosters. Actually quite decent and the 2nd highest selling beer.
Most popular is Carling ... Personally, I'd rather drink recycled toilet water, but have been known to have a pint of it very occasionally.
Stella and Kronenburg are the other two local favourites. I think both have a decent taste.

Kronenbourg if you're drinking lager.

Yeah is a nice drop. I do laugh that all of the beers I mentioned are "brewed" in the UK but aren't a UK brew. There is a lack of good lagers domestically. Some of the smaller breweries do make some good lagers, but their distribution range is small.

Then again... You can buy Boags in the UK along with some of the little creatures and coopers ranges. I avoid the VB and Carlton beers that occasionally are available at Aussie backpacker places.

I'm going to have to try and balance my evening now... we have a going away dinner for someone (and end of project thing too). I'm sure I'll make it work :)

Noted. We will see you when we see you!

While my day will be hectic, I think I'll be turning up somewhere between 6pm and 7pm depending on when I am released from work! (gut feeling is that 6.30 is the most likely time for me). Mella2007 I will send you a PM with my contact details.

there has been a venue change. if you were planning to attend but haven't commented on this thread ... send me a PM.

BTW. nothing wrong with the William Blake. Have just popped my head in and it fits the criteria perfectly. may use this place in the future for an AFF catchup.

No worries. Family comes first. And knowing the story... I hope it all works out well.
