I have not really been following this one. Who was the winner? Was it JohnK?

Sorry, I probably haven't been paying enough attention, but I wanted to ask a question.

On the main page of the forum it shows this:

Threads: 2,375, Posts: 29,712, Members: 1,777

So what did you base the 30,000 posts on? :-|

The 30,000 post was that indicated when mousing-over the post # in the top RH corner. It included deleted posts which are not icluded in that 29,712 figure. When the new BB software was implemented this number jumped to over 86K. See post #83 of this thread, JohnK used a reference post to make an adjustment.

According to new version your post is post# 85738 and as there was 1058 posts remaining until the 30,000th post I will adjust the new posting target to be post# 86796.

This is post# 86505 so there are 291 posts remaining for this competition to end.

I guess our next competition will be AFF's 90,000 post thread!
I still reckon I was nobbled! :?

When you fellows have sorted it all out, let me know what needs to be updated in the Winners Podium thread and I will try to do it.

Ah... I see. I won't ask why the number jumped to 86K - sounds technical.

Sorry serfty, you had a chance but blame your mates from the east island and the queen's state for their posting frenzy on Mon, Tue and Wed.

Correct, all locked down now...
Is that all posts or just the ones that were brought across from the old version?

I believe the editting setting on the new software only allow you to edit a previous post for a short period of time - might be something like 24 hours.

But I expect a mod can still edit an old post, so let me know what you want changed (PM is a good way to get it through) and I'll see what I can do.

We can't emulate our friend merry?

All explained in post #107 which is the post before your last post.

Since Lindsay has been very busy with work and I am already covered up to my armpits in sand thought it was time to start this thread as we have just passed 28,000 posts.

Prizes - anyone kind enough to donate a prize.

To make it interesting, all picks must be entered by midnight AEST 10 May.

The winner is the person who is closest (but before) the winning number. Do deleted posts count...probably, because it's easier to calculate when we reach 30K posts.

Plenty of time so grease your abacus, or shine your crystal ball. If any prize giver wins, then they can win any prizes that aren't their own; whilst their prize goes to the next closest picker.

Isnt the guess that closest but before the winning number mine?

That is a good point. When we run the normal 1,000th post threads then it is the closest predicition wins regardless of whether prediction is before or after.

But for some reason I copied this opening post from Lindsay's previous competition and his rules are that if your prediction has passed and the required post has not been posted then you are out. It could be 3 months before the next prediction and that person wins.

I won this competition and my winning prediction was after actual post. http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/81877-54-post.html

I am happy to review the result if people feel I have made the wrong decision.

Not that there are any prizes up for grabs, but I do think we should follow the rules set down at the beginning of the thread - regardless of past precedent or expectations.

IE:

"the person who is closest (but before) the winning number"

So on a technicality, I think that makes Kiwi Flyer the winner.

Maybe we need a new Playground thread with Poll to decide :D

when you guys come to a conclusion, let me know if you want any changes. I'm getting involved in the rules on this one :p.

Perhaps you are right but precedent and expectation do play an important part.

I did not bother reading the fine print of the opening post as I copied it word for word from Lindsay's version of an earlier competition. And the expectation here was that the winning post must be before the actual prediction. Nobody questioned it when danielh won Lindsay's 1,000th post thread with a prediction of 5 days past the actual post where brisbull was closer at only 1 day before the actual post. The same applied in the AFF's 25,000 post thread when I won with a prediction after the actual post.

When I was/we were crossing off each of the competitors on this thread as their guess had expired not a word was said and the expectation in the end was a showdown between myself and serfty. Again you will notice that the expectation on this thread was that once your prediction had expired so did your chance of winning. No mention was made to closest post. Anyway I declared the winner based on precedent and expectation so if the result is to be reversed it would need to be from someone else.

You will notice that most of the other competition threads have the disclaimer
Closest guess to actual post time will win - regardless of whether the guess is earlier or later than the posting time.

After being away for most of the last few weeks through illness and work I come back and have no idea of what you are all talking about. Some of the ways of counting posts and ways of doing things on the forum don'r seem to work for me (or I've lost the plot (very possible)) so I'm going to resort to sending out a few PM's to clarify what, why and how.:oops:
I guess my first public question is does anyone here use Mozilla or is everyone strict IE users?:confused:

I use IE and the Firefox incarnation of Mozilla.

As I missed out on the voting I'll see if I can find another hat as a prize.

Does it have to be a new one:?:
