When I got home from Melb earlier this week to find that darling daughter and LOTO (aka leader of the opposition, aka, hubby) had dragged all the Chrissy tree, decorations, lights etc .....out of storage... I was *ahem, delighted

Today, I arrived home to an 8 foot ladder in the drive, semi assembled outdoor lighting configurations, 6 boxes of decorations in the lounge, a gigantic unadorned Christmas tree and Michael Buble on repeat playing through the home entertainment system.

Took an hour to untangle the garlands that LOTO insists are better than tinsel... By which time I had had enough. It's the first of December and I have had a bah humbug moment already. Nothing except another glass of vino is going to help!

So, is your tree up, have you illuminated your house for your neighbors, did you participate even though you were dead on your feet.... How many bottles of Margaret River's finest do you need to get the job done to the satisfaction of your LOTO, SWMBO and kiddilinks.

Or is this something you are looking forward to, between now and 25/12

What do you love about Christmas

Ummm, It's the second everywhere in Australia :)

Merry Christmas!

Haha :p so true!

merry Christmas right back Statesman. Not really a Grinch.

Maybe just a wee bit too tired to get into the full spirit on 1 and 2 December.
God I wish I hadn't agreed that we needed new floors and curtains, rather than a fab OS holiday this year. Might have been far less Grinch like if I was on the snow in Reit Im Winkle Germany, like last year :p

I'm sure I'm on record, if not on AFF then in my non-online life, that Xmas decorations should be banned before December 1st.

Bah humbug or merry Xmas to all (you can all chose which you prefer.

Or non-denominationaly -Happy Festivus (for the Seinfeld fans out there).

I live with someone who is not a fan of Christmas decorations, so I do not have a tree or any tinsel.

I must admit though, cleaning up after the decorations come down, is a nightmare. That said, I'd like a small tree.

Just seems as though the magic of Christmas has well and truly gone now that i'm an adult (and i'm not about to even contemplate children around me in an attempt to re-live the joy that I used to recall; I have 2 nephews and a niece, and after 3-4 hours of them on Christmas day, I'm very ready to hand them all back to my brother and sister-in-law!).

Perhaps a white Christmas is in order; I have deluded romantic ideas about having a true white Christmas, Glüwein, open fire, Stockings hung with care, snow falling down outside charming bay windows, bear skin rug, etc etc. It's the European in me. I'm only 1/4 Australian. The snow and cold, it calls to me (and hell the Glüwein does too!).

*edit*
I don't know what on earth bought it on but for some reason the housemate said to me this afternoon "So how would you feel if I put up a small Christmas tree?" and he hadn't even read this thread! The result:

So, after not having a tree for the better part of 15 years, I have a Christmas tree! Go figure!

Don't get me on the rant about things that should be banned...

Red nose Day is not all year and also take the aussie flags off your car windows or at least when the flag has blown off remove the stick.

I have been reading Christmas bedtime stories to my girls since early November  They love it. Our tree went up on 1st Dec

The Tree Bag makes a great hiding spot in the garage afterwards ;)
I love Christmas and think my house looks bare when all the decorations get put away.

I've got my tree up and the lights strung, but no decorations yet...my cat has a tendency to crash tackle the whole thing.

I will admit that Xmas is defo NOT bossreggie.

I got in a lot of trouble from my Mum and siblings many years ago, when I explained to my son (then 7 YO) that if EVER a fat guy wearing a disguise WAS in his bedroom it was a safe bet it wasn't to drop off gifts.

I also suggested to him that if Santa was all he was cracked up to be then MAYBE, just MAYBE....... He could drop some cool gifts at a poor persons house!

(How was I to know he would repeat this at school in front of his whole class??)

So now...... In the bossreggie household, and among ALL my nephews and nieces..... They get to tell me what they would like for Xmas and I buy that.

(OMG..... I am a greenie!! I don't wrap gifts either)

Now I can have a longer shower.

I incline towards the "bah humbug" school of Christmas cheer. However, this year I will put up my Christmas decoration (note singular!) just before 25th December. I have been know to put on some Christmas carols on the cd from time to time.

I really do feel for people that work in stores with christmas music playing for two months straight - I would snap...

I actually helped out a mate at his cafe a month ago and a day with christmas music (the justin bieber christmas album ) was enough to make me go insane.

I'm quite fond of this, done by a russian designer called Nikolya Pere:

We quite like the smell of the pine tree so we buy one each year on the 2nd weekend of December, break out the decorations, and usually have a glass of champagne (or two) as we decorate the tree.

Our daughter is having a friend from Denmark (northern Hemisphere Denmark, not Denmark, WA) staying with us for a few weeks over Christmas so it will be a unique experience for her, having a 'summer' Christmas.

Shameful update.....

Turns out that Darling Daughter's efforts at decorating the WHOLE house With thousands of light bulbs have been genuinely appreciated in our neighborhood....not a hood that is known for community stuff

We've had a steady progression of kiddies and grannies who have been really pleased by our humble but genuine (okay I Was going to add freaking expensive) efforts towards the festive spirit in our community.

As I type, I'm listening to a rare December electrical storm......not sure I would want to be flying in it.....and thinking......Golly Gosh (or equivalent expletive alternative)...... I do hope one's community festive illuminations are not shot to hell by this violent electrical storm

Ah...bah..humbug
Off, now to fix the fuses
