Ok so this MAY have been said before, but....

Living in Canberra, and returning to overseas travel in the last couple of years.... how GOOD is it that one can now actually take an international flight from Canberra INTERNATIONAL Airport?

I've flown out with Qatar four times in the last 18 months, and damn I just love the almost toy-town experience of departing from Canberra airport.

Generally its five minutes from arrival to the airport to checkin to domestic security to international security to gate. FIVE minutes.
Sooooo much indescribably better than flying domestically to Sydney and going through the Sydney transfer circus!
So much faster than catching a bus to the Sydney International Terminal... etc etc.

So yeah yeah there's a "technical stop" (marketing stop) in Sydney but it still makes the experience much better.

Have to try Singapore Airlines at some point too....

Pity you can't book the CBR-SYD sector on QR and then transfer to an international QF / (other OW) international flight in SYD. In my case QR will be twice flying in the wrong direction.

Avoiding the SYD T3 - T1 transfer would be great.

A QF25 CBR-SYD tag would be nice.

That's the only reason QR even fly to CBR. Their traffic allowance to PER/MEL/BNE/SYD was used up and are allowed an extra 7 weekly flights, provided they fly to/via another port.

I'd expect that if the Qatar limit of 21 weekly flights to PER/MEL/BNE/SYD is increased, and they don't want to add flights to MEL or BNE, they'll remove the CBR tag.

Are you this much fun at parties? ;)🤣🤓

I used it for the first time 2 weeks ago after my issues with Qantas and booked a flight with Qatar.
Normally I would try and fly via anywhere but Sydney, however I'm thinking Qatar and Singapore wil get more of my business from now on.

Hopefully CX decides to open a HKG-CBR route. They've maxed out their allowed flights to SYD/MEL/BNE/PER, but are allowed unlimited to other ports.

That would be good, as it's a route I fly from time to time, provided it was actually non stop.

Agreed, I don't mind going via another port when departing, but coming back and the long haul is over and I'm just waiting for that final short hop home is always a killer.

My parents have lived near Gundagai for years and until recently had never flown internationally from CBR instead driving down to MEL or up to SYD. They recently went SQ from CBR and loved how relaxing and easy the process was. They already have another trip with SQ in a few months time and are looking at their first trip to Europe next year possibly with QR
