Hi All,

My partner and I are travelling over to Vancouver in May to visit friends. The plan is to utilise Virgin’s current sale to fly into LAX and then use Air Canada to fly from LAX to YVR. Reasoning is that the price comes to around $1250 AUD return doing it this way and we plan to spend a couple of days in LA on the way home.

Will the LAX to YVR return accrue status credits for the flight ? I can’t seem to find any info online

It's a pathetic arrangement. You will not get status credits - even if you fly VA numbers!!

If you fly on AC numbers you will get squat.

I'll repeat, it's pathetic. They don't even include the information on the Velocity website - it's on the main VA site though. Perhaps they don't want to draw attention to such an embarrassing "partnership"

Are you sure about this? I thought that this changed from December last year (for flights with a VA flight number on some specific routes).

From the Velocity website:

In addition to this, from 1 December 2018 Velocity members flying on an Air Canada operated flight with a Virgin Australia flight number between Los Angeles and Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto will earn Status Credits. You can see all the earn rates on our Status Credit Earn tables here .

Program Update | Velocity Frequent Flyer

The OP would still not earn status credits or points though as they'd be booking an AC flight number.

Ended up booking AC as the times suited better. Looked up the flight number and confirmed it’s a VA codeshare flight.

However there is option to add your Velocity FF details on the booking, you can add all other airlines including Singapore, Etihad etc

I’ll have to give them a call in the morning. Not a seamless experience!

You won't get any benefits from the VA codeshare unless you actually booked on the VA flight number. Which can only be done in conjunction with a VA flight to/from Australia. ;)

The only way to earn Velocity points for this flight would be to credit to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, then (eventually) transfer the KrisFlyer miles to Velocity if you have enough.

Well there you go, thanks for the information.

Unless I missed it they don't seem to have updated their website on the matter...

i'm doing the same thing but booked Westjet so as to capitalise on everything.

So did you do VA to LAX and Westjet LAX to YVR?
Yes exactly - Westjet through Delta.
But OT I just had a shock to find my return flight from Calgary to LAX has been put back over 3 hours so had to cancel and re-book via Air Canada. Otherwise could miss my flight back to Brisbane. They didn't even email me.

Ah so you did you book the westjet flight through a OTA or directly through delta?

I've just done something similar though flew to the USA and back using SQ.

Simply bought Delta tickets (W) to fly to Canada and back to the USA.

For travel within Canada we used the train and Air Canada. I did look into opening KrisFlyer to transfer the points to velocity, but it wasn't going to be enough points for a minimum transfer so didn't get anything for that flight.
