I am planning a trip to SFO via YVR. Would like to know how good Air Canada is compared to QF.

I took a lot of AC flights earlier this year in a mix of aircraft in both all-Y configs and J. In my view AC is partway between AA and QF. It's got some nicer aircraft and interiors like QF and serves a bit of QF-style food but the FA's, lounges and service in general are closer to AA than QF.

As your route is short, I'd choose the carrier based on the schedule, price and ability to credit your preferred FF program.

To get to YVR on QF, you'll most probably need to transfer at LAX. That alone rules it out for me.

Hi

I went to YVR on QF in Jan and whilst in Canada took a Domestic flight from YYC to YVR on AC. I was traveling with some uni students so we went cheap but i was very impressed with the AC service offering.

If i was doing it again i would just to the AC to YVR and avoid the US all together. I booked with QF largely to get he A380 which then proceeded to have some engine issues:(

But Alas a true AFFer, will put up with the pain of transits and connections if it means more points and status lol.

Jokes aside. My only experience with AC was from EWR-YYC on an E90, was quite impressed by both hard and soft product, but not comparable to trans pacific flights.

Have you considered Air NZ via AKL.

I've done SYD - YVR a few times in J with Air Canada. Good flights - herringbone configuration - I remember thinking it was a bit wider than the CX ones. Good flight, good service and the big bonus of avoiding LAX

When I was living in YUL I did a lot of flying with AC. I found the service on the SYD-YVR quite good, and find the J product to be excellent.

Also I quite like the lounges and found them far superior to any of the US lounges (at least in YUL, YYZ and YVR). This was a few years ago now, so things may have (and probably have) deteriorated...

my bus ptr is a super elite with AC. he flies them to YVR multiple times per year and rates their offering in Intl J as much better than QF.

Giving AC a shot Syd-YVR next week in J . Any further views on what to expect?

I will spend a lot of time with them as I'm in and out of Canada in a day and a half.

My mum went on this flight a few months ago, in Y. Service was horrible. Couldn't even get tea (FA allegedly only fetched tea for the Caucasians, but I can't verify that). Whether that's true or not, I suppose it still beats transiting in LAX.

In YQB after doing AC 34 SYD to Toronto

J class AC 34 was great.

Full flat herringbone style 1-2-1 seating.

Air NZ lounge was busy but had small hotel style buffett (toast, cereal, sausages, beans, eggs, muffins) and NZ brut bubbles and rose bubbles.

Hot towels before meals.

Lunch was great on board..I had salmon with avocardo for entree, rack of lamb for mains and fruit for desert (? What..like diet coke with pizza really??)

Wine and port were A+

Breakfast before landing (Omelette with sausage or pancakes)

AVOD was reasonable

YVR to YYZ was standard domestic business but lie flat.

Immigration at YVR fast and with a smile!!

At >$2000 to 3500 cheaper than QF bargain.

I would do it again.

What about FJ SYD-NAN-HNL-YVR (last bit would be AC probably)?

Or SYD-HKG-YVR on CX, SYD-NRT-YVR on JL, or QF SYD-DFW-YVR?
