Round trip for $508 in Y, not bad.

Damn that's good value - if I didn't have SQ F rdpts booked both ways I would be all over this. Am still contemplating as I have never flown CA long haul - I think MEL has flown them couple times and speaks pretty highly - decisions decisions.

While a good price, it's currently only $2,335.00 (total) in J-class on Malaysia Airlines MEL-PEK return for the same dates. Which earns 260 SCs on QFF.

And that's now with the new J-cabin A330s (fully flat seats) on all flights. MH's in-flight service in J-class is pretty good too.

A long transit in KUL however!

Each to their own - I have zero interest in QF status credits or long layovers in KUL - CA flts are direct which is a bonus to many - the SQ F rdpts are costing me considerably less than the MH J you quote - again each to their own.

Yes of course, but you said the airfare price was "sensational". I'm just pointing out that it's actually higher than other airlines.

(And I've taken the CA flights too)

Is it not a "sensational" price for CA J direct flts?

As I've paid even less for my J-class CA flights, I'd have to say it's "good". :) And to note that CA's direct flights MEL-PEK are not daily.

Having flown both airlines, I prefer MH for many reasons, but each to their own!

Ummm yes - but with qualifications. I'm not a 'bells and whistles' passenger. I'm not sure there's any one 'perfect' business class. So on that basis I want a full length comfortable flat bed. That's what I get with Air China. Amenities are limited and food is far from gourmet, but I find the crew are always thoughtful.

I'm still undecided on their safety direction. The departure of their commercial manager is a step in the right direction however.

CA has a usual lead-in price around the $2900 mark, although those are often patchy and quite often seem to sell out fast, with regular fares in the $3700+ range. So this is about $300 cheaper than their regular fare... but perhaps tempting enough to off-set the lack of amenity compared to SQ. And this current promotion is offering wide availability.

Lots of discounting on the AU-China market atm. CX was offering $3400 to any mainland destination (maybe still is? I booked one a couple days ago). QF is offering $3600 to PVG.
