The flights, should it go ahead, will be funded under the taxpayer-funded "Reconnecting WA" aviation fund.

The WA Government and PAPL has also approached Indigo (LCC) as well.

I had seen news about this yesterday but are not really sure how extensive these talks are. I am sure every airline who could possibly fly to Perth has been at least politely asked if they want to come. There has been nothing, that I have seen anyway, in the local press about this. It would be nice if Vistara was interested as I have seen a few on-line reviews about them lately and they see pretty good especially in comparison to Air India. Apparently Vistara and Air India will be merging their operations next year so I hope the better side of both airlines are retained rather than the worst.

I have never travelled on Air India but I arranged a trip to Singapore on them for my wife and her mother in the 1990's when Air India made a brief return to Perth with some good fares. My good efforts were tarnished a bit when they found that Air India still allowed smoking on planes years after it had been banned in Australia. The fell even further when they got the hotel in Chinatown that also had an opening special. It was in a couple of converted shophouses. Unfortunately for me my mother in law, who was born and lived in Singapore for 30 years, recognised that it was actually the site of a former notorious brothel.
