The AI/VA codeshare will be a unilateral partnership to start off with (similar to the outgoing EY/VA codeshare, or the recently retained SA/VA unilateral codeshare from South Africa).

Will be interesting if VA expands this unilateral codeshare to a bilateral one (allowing VFFs to book services to India) in the future considering AI is part-owned by SQ (25%), and India is not part of the QR coverage.

The 500 new jets for AI cannot come quick enough then. Odd it doesn't mention the opportunities for Velocity at all. Having lived in India, not really surprising though.

The AI/VA codeshare as stated above, is a unilateral partnership to start off with (i.e primarily on the India originating P.O.S), hence no mention of Velocity. Whether if the partnership expands to a bilateral partnership in the future (so that Velocity members can redeem on AI in the future) is another question.

Oh

Not surprised, but 'old mates' at AusBT/ET, along with a number of other bloggers jumped ahead at the AI/VA unilateral codeshare and thought it was a bilateral one before they were notified it was a one-way/unilateral codeshare by a VA rep and some had to eventually correct their articles.

Qatar says hi.

Oh wait, SQ owns 25% of AI through the Vistara acquisition.

"Is SQ finally gonna TAEK OVAH VA and bring them into TeH sTaR aLLiAnCE? ?????11111???" ;)
Other than the QR oddity (Which isn't all that strange given QR as an oddity amongst oneworld also), VA is aligned with so many other Star Alliance members, it just makes sense..

Considering majority owners Bain has largely stayed out of putting money into upgraded JV partnerships let alone put up the money to apply for Star Alliance, it's unlikely Bain will change their mind until after the Qatar transactions and any future IPOs.

This codeshare as mentioned is a unilateral one which benefits India originating passengers/AI FFs only.

So it's revenue for VA but of zero benefit to Australian passengers as VA does not codeshare on AI nor interline with each other on the VA website (VA/AI had a one way interline arrangement prior to upgrading that to a one way codeshare)

It means nothing to AI's FFP either. This partnership doesn't involve FFP aspect of things on either side.

On *A, it's actually quite interesting to observe that some rewards seats on VA's flights to DOH have been made available to UA and AC (I haven't checked SQ and NH). I never thought I could see the day that I could use my AC miles on QSuite.

AI needs to lift their game... cannot be soon enough....hurry up Tata
+ if they fix the airports it would be a great place to transit on way to Europe
