Air Niugini increases CNS-POM services

PX has said that QF will be codesharing on the POM-CNS flights from 30 October, "subject to regulatory approval" [Airline plans more flights]. This works out better for me, but it seems inevitable that fares on this sector will increase.

I discovered the Cairns Rabaul route a couple of years ago.
PX's RAB-CNS flights didn't last long.

How many spare planes does Air Niugini have?
I have heard they are considering flights to Chuuk,Pohnpei and probably Guam next year.

PNG-FSM services

Air Niugini commences services to FSM

Air Niugini will commence twice weekly air services between Port Moresby and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from Dec 3, 2016.

Once the scheduled passenger service comes into effect from December, Air Niugini will be operating two return air services a week, every Wednesdays and Saturdays from Port Moresby to Chuuk and Pohnpei.

Another major factor enabling the establishment of direct regular services to FSM has been the successful introduction of the Fokker 70 aircraft into Air Niugini’s fleet as a central component of the K700 million fleet upgrading and replacement program.

The F70 aircraft is well suited to servicing regional routes – such as the FSM – because of fuel efficiency, a longer flight range, a capability to cruise at higher levels, and a passenger capacity that is more suitable to meet the passenger demand.

Re: PNG-FSM services

It would link in with Nauru Airlines Nauru-Tarawa-Majuro-Kosrae-Pohnpei service.
Sounds like it could be a very good lesser known Islands run.

My ex did FIFO into Nauru for a while. 'Allegedly' they had to fly vv to the Solomons to ensure fuel quality was maintained.

Re: PNG-FSM services

I have some inside knowledge there. The fuel on the Island was contaminated, so they had to go via Solomons for the fuel.
