Hey all. Long time reader but first time poster. I generally travel Asian and Euro routes out of BNE so hold Kris Flyer. Never fly Qantas as I most of my routes are international and SQ is normally my chosen airline for the connections I need.

However, I find myself next week needing to be in LAX for a couple of days on business.

Best carrier for J or F seemed to be Air NZ and managed to grab a decent Z fare. However, a friend of mine is traveling also on the same day, same flights in the PE cabin.

Can I guest him into the Air NZ lounge at BNE and AKL as I am a business class pax traveling on the same flights ?

Also does anyone have any ideas on somewhere to get a shower at LAX before I have to drive to San Diego that same day ?

Any other tips for this route most welcome and thanks heaps in advance for the help. Look forward to posting a trip report. :)

No arrival lounge in LAX I'm afraid.... some folks talk about hotel health clubs as an option??? I usually grab a shower just before departing AKL... and find that carries me through OK.... it's a pretty nice lounge in AKL IMO...

Are you *G through SQ? If so you'll have no problem guesting someone in to the lounge.. if not... I'm not sure... I don't think you can guest on the strength of a "BP" BP.... (if you know what I mean there !) I'll see if I can find out... it's a good question!

I hope - for your friends sake you are on the 747 AKL-LAX.. PE on the 747 is just... better. Mind you, PE on the 777 beats economy!

You'll find the style of service different to SQ.... (I like them both!) and the seat is pretty good for sitting and (IMO) very good for sleeping (YMMV)... I always enjoy the food (but then I am a bachelor and a lousy cook so that may not mean a great deal!) Not a wine drinker so I can't help you there.... the Jack Daniels is always good...;)

The front C cabin on the 747 is "reserved" for Elites... mainly NZ ones I believe (had 4A on my last BP flight - on an upgrade as NZ Gold) .. but some other *Golds report success in nabbing a seat there.. it is VERY nice.... If on the 777 row 7 is considered best by some for a single traveller.. you are not looking across the aisle at anyone else....

That'a about all I can think of... have a great trip!

Thanks for the info. I did email Air NZ some days ago with the query and have just heard from them in fact on the subject of guesting :-

Dear xx_,

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately we do not have day passes for Brisbane. As a business class traveller you are entitled to take a guest into the lounge with you. All you need to do is show your current boarding pass for the day of travel and you will get access into the lounge along with your guest.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

I've travelled in these types of seats before as I used to be a Virgin Atlantic sort of person and always found them to be good and understand the Air NZ seats are basically the same and under licence from them design wise.

Because I'm travelling with a friend in PE I have, very reluctantly, changed my seating to the upper cabin on the 747s where he is but would rather and more usually travel as far forward as I was able.

Ah well. Beats flying whY class! Thanks for the heads up on the LAX arrival facilities or lack of them.
