Airnorth's parent company is bankrupt and Airnorth is up for sale - I didn't know but I do now. Apparently, REX is interested. You'd think maybe Alliance and Cobham were kicking the tyres as well.

Regional aviation is one of those things I rarely use, but I know it's important. Often you only need and miss these things when they are gone.

As far as I see it, the only logical buyer would be Qantas.

They're very closely integrated with the codeshares, frequent flyer and freight and I can't imagine it's something Qantas would be willing to lose.

That being said the parent company is reportedly looking for up to $100 million (accuracy of this is questionable) so I doubt anyone is going to fork that much for an airline with partially failing routes.

I've flown them a few times and they're fine.

The E170's are a basic 2x2 with 17 rows of all economy. Baggage is a strict 20kg checked and onboard in these post covid times they offer a snack (chips, cheese and crackers etc) plus water or canned soft drinks (but no alcohol). Recently some of the E170's have been in for maintenance so they've been using Alliance E190's or F100s and I guess service would be even more minimal on these flights.

There is no advanced seat selection so you have to put up with what you get during check-in (which can be done online if booked direct with Air North).

On some routes they codeshare with Qantas, you can book via the Qantas website and you end up with a QF flight number. These codeshare flights when available come with a few more Qantas points, status credits and lounge access where offered for QF Club/Gold/Plat but generally cost a bit more than booking direct. No other Qantas benefits apply however it is worth noting that I got a seat assignment shortly after booking which makes me think the system randomly assigns a seat at time of booking.
