Hi AFF,

My family has approximately 2000 worth of NZ Airpoints, with 500 due to expire in early Feb. I am looking for suggestions on the best point/dollar return in redeeming the points.

We are based in Sydney and don't often travel via Air NZ.

Is converting the points to another airline a good use of the points? Should the points be used for 4x economy return tickets or 2x business tickets? Which destinations/airlines from Sydney provide the best value for redemption?

Thanks for the help!

I’m pretty sure you can’t transfer Airpoints to another airline, although you could try to redeem them for travel on another Star Alliance carrier or VA. Airpoints work just like currency and 2,000 would get you 2 business fares or 4 economy fares to NZ when fares are on sale. From Sydney Air NZ only fly J to Auckland but you can redeem for Virgin flights Trans Tasman. Virgin can get you J seats to CHC or ZQN in addition to AKL. Personally if I was to do a business class trip over the ditch I would go for NZ. Better seats and food.
