I'm flying into JFK soon with my family and a lot of luggage! Moving to Canada for a year :-)

Can anyone recommend a good company for an airport transfer? We'll need a minivan or SUV. Cheers

I always use Dial 7. Reliable and pricing quite reasonable.

Thanks John. They're the same company that Citi Prestige has provided a quote with too. Do you remember what the likely tolls will be from JFK to Manhattan? Do you book the car for an hour or so after scheduled arrival time to allow for customs clearance and baggage collection?

We did it in September with 4 kids, 6 x 20+ kg bags & 6 hand luggage. We used a transfer service JFK to Manhattan and cost $360US (each way prepaid). Nightmare time. He went to the wrong terminal, etc etc etc. Finally picked us up 1.5hrs later, in a pretty coughpy minivan. Sat there the whole time looking at this big black Escalades that were begging for people. I asked which transfer company and was told Uber. On the way from Manhattan to JFK, transfer company got times wrong despite having checked 3 times. Did Uber for SUV. Big Black Escalade to the door in 2 mins, fitted everything in (i think 2 bags on laps/in between seats). Made it to JFK on time and in comfort, brand new top of the range, full leather luxury. AND only cost $80US. Tipped the guy $50US as thank you. We used Uber for all travel in states, now will use them for transfers as well.

Dial 7 has fixed rates. Details are here: New York Airport Limousine & Car Service | NJ & NY Airport Car Service

You tell them the scheduled pick-up time, but because it's fixed rate, you don't pay for waiting time if you are late. When you collect bags, you dial the pre-advised number, and they tell you which driver is collecting you. You then wait on the traffic island for the car to arrive.

And does anyone have experience with catching a taxi late at night - our flight arrives 2235, so will probably take at least an hour to hear customs and grab bags. Will we be able to get a 'maxi taxi'/van easily from the cab rank at that hour?

perfect, this is the exact question I was about to ask.

Gotham Air seems like the way to go... If only my partner didn't hate flying, especially rotaries.

I normally speak to the hotel concierge about their recommendation car service, and have found there is generally a discount.

Town car to our hotel 2 weeks ago was $120, used 6 limo and would recommend them

Might be cheaper to use 2 taxis at a fixed price of $55 each

Taking notes we will need a pick up back to JFK in October.
To get a fixed taxi from a hotel do you just ring a taxi company?

Our hotel has just quoted $325 and $305 for pickup and drop off  Looks like I'm on the hunt for a company to use for our visit in Jan.

After a lot of research JFK >Upper Westside , we booked Jr Luxury NYC $110 us plus about $20 meet and greet .
Big new black suv , careful friendly driver.. very highly recommended..
On return swmbo talked me into the airport shuttle.. $45us good .. 1.5 hour milk run in central Ny.. not good but we had heaps of time so...

I took your advice and went with Jr Luxury. Excellent service, particularly with the massive disruption caused by the 'Bomb Cyclone" that hit the East coast.

IIRC return trip LGA-Midtown-JFK with meet and greet was around $270 inclusive of all tolls, fees, and gratuity.... big Suburban SUV.

A noobie to NY question. What time to book a transfer from NYC (central park) to JFK for an AA flight departing 10.00am Friday morning (a domestic flight to LAX and then connecting to HNL)?

I am guessing that we are looking at rush hour, so is a 7.00am pick up about right to allow 90 minutes for travel, and arrive 90 minutes prior for checkin?

FWIW, our limo service insisted on a 4 hr pickup time from international departure. I'd say allowing 3 hours from domestic check-in has plenty of buffer built in. Always a good idea to check with hotel concierge.

I personally would be booking something at 630am latest to try and beat the traffic. Also rhe TSA security Qs at Jfk could be horrendous at that time...
