Airport hotel TPE

Merry Christmas to me. I'll be doing an overnight transit in TPE.

Does anyone have any feedback on the airport hotel? Are taxi's cheap? Would I be better staying in town? I arrive approx 1600 and leave 1000

Is it a regular visa on arrival for Australian passport holders?

Novotel.... Plenty of discussions here regarding it.

For your layover, you could head into town - or at least away from the airport - but airport would do as well. Note that food options around the Novotel are extremely limited (unless you dine there of course!).

Can't recall the taxi rate, I've caught a taxi once (circa $A50 perhaps?). I've used the bus+train which is ok, and there is bus into town - but I haven't tried that.

Australians are just stamped in. No Visa required, although you do have to fill out the standard immigration form.

The bus into town can take a while but is cheap, another option off airport with good eating alternatives is the HI Express Taoyuan. About $70 a night.

Take a Taxi to the bullet train station, then stay at the Ambassador in downtown Taipei. awesome awesome awesome Japanese fusion restaurant across the road, and the hotel is very 5 star at a good price. You are also quite close to Shilin Night Market - a must do if in Taipei for only one night! (Shilin Night Market travel guide of hot destinations (Sinotour) )

Keep in mind The General public and taxi drivers in taiwan speak little to no English.

So keep your plans simple.

Ive also never been in a taxi that takes credit card

Yes I was referring to Airport Novotel. I arrived late and left early and taxi was best proposition.
