Al Maha - Would you recommend?

The gentleman and I will have a few days in Dubai in August after some safari adventures in Africa. We are looking at staying somewhere where we can relax and recuperate and be a little pampered. Obviously Al Maha is at the super expensive end of the budget so I would hate to go and feel like the experience wasn't worth it. Has anyone stayed here and if so, what are your thoughts? Any other recommendations for adult sanctuary style accommodation in Dubai also welcome.

It had a very impressive front gate which I had the privilege of driving through, but that is the extent of my experience . Considering its in the top 25 hotels of the world by Tripadvisor and ranked No 1 in Dubai, I suspect its pretty good!

On the SPG site, it says 'This resort has limited participation in the SPG programme'.

Has any SPG Gold or Plat members had experience staying here, it seems you cannot redeem starpoints but do they at least recognise status and give room upgrades?
