Can't find any recent threads so was wondering if anyone had any experiences at LAX with Alamo Car Hire?

Seem to have pretty good rates compared to Hertz and seeing as i need 2 week hire in June i wanted to get some feedback if possible.

I used Alamo Oct/Nov last year.

I picked a car up from Anaheim and I had booked to return it there also, I called them to ask if I could return it to LAX instead - no issue, no extra charge. Using Alamo was a good experience for me.

I use them every time I go through LAX and have found them fantastic.

I'm doing three weeks in June. I have some specific questions...

Are the cars nice and new like Hertz?

Are Alamo easy to find when arriving jetlagged in LAX international for the first time?

What insurances do I need? I want to be fully covered in case of theft, break in, accident etc. etc.

If I sign up to their 'rewards club' I get a 5% discount?

Thanks in advance !

Yes the cars are all new. You head out onto the curb and go to the rental car pick up area; the bus will take you to the actual location just down the road.

I just joined the Alamo discount club... And the prices got more expensive... hm ok.

Hi. Easy pick up. Paid an extra day to pick up 4 hours early. Also hired a GPS (approx 20aud/day, not cheap). Price through economy car rentals (which included zero excess insurance) was very good. If recommend Australians look at UK consolidators like economycarrental, Argus etc. Google it, or search this site, there are a lot of discussions already. Often much cheaper than renting direct.

What i always do is buy a travel SIM for the USA and use my iPhone as a GPS. Works a treat and saves heaps.

Could be that you added preferences to your account which they then use to calculate your quote. Be sure to remove everything and then compare.

I thought this was a great deal. Might have to just add a little bit extra insurance though .

Used Alamo plenty of times, it's good you can book and not need to pay anything until you get there.

They have plenty of vehicles, just check they've been cleaned properly.

If you don't like them, even when at the counter walk out and go else where. At LAX they are in the same building as sister National Car Rental. Much easier to walk to the next counter at SFO.

Alamo are fine, just keep the expectations in line with how much you're spending.

I ended up booking through economycarrentals.com, they were cheaper, the insurance was clear, got an extra driver and only a small deposit. (ended up being through Alamo)

I treated myself to 21 days in a convertible mustang for ~1300AUD
