The Alaska Guardhouse is a situated in a historic house bordering the parade grounds in Fort William H. Seward in Haines Alaska. The rooms & living areas are totally renovated with modern conveniences, but keeps the flavor of the original architecture. The B & B is centrally located only 10 minutes walking distance from downtown and one block from the waterfront. Comfortable room with 2 queen beds, free Wifi, tv (1 station). The advertised spa pool is not switched on. Breakfast is like the rest of organisation, very relaxed, get your own from what is in the kitchen. Haines was very busy the last 2 days with a beer festival that attracts about 500 extra people to the town. We walked down but being in our early 50's found we were more that double the average age of attendees
so it was back to the deck of the B&B for drinks in the sun. Have had excellent food at the Lighthouse restaurant & seafood cart just down the road. Plenty of walks nearby but no obvious sign of wildlife at this time- more out the road so a car would be handy for that but not necessary otherwise.
