I think I've spent well? and have amassed 23,276 points since joining in January this year. I need 24000 to get 2 "free" one way flights Sydney to Rockhampton. I'd like to book now to finalise travel plans for next year.
My questions are....
.How often are FF point on the Qantas site updated? and
.How many FF seats would there be on a SYD-BNE-ROK flight for a March 2011 or is that a crystal ball query. I don't want to miss out.
Thanks in advance.

Go to Qantas - flights to Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Book airfares at qantas.com. login and go to the awards section, and input your itinerary and dates. Doing that I can availability everyday in Mar 2011 (for classic awards).

Doing a dummy booking, shows that the final cost will be:
Points & Credit Card = 24,000 + $47.94 (AUD) OR Total Points = 36,000

Prices should be the same or similar for an any seat award.

QFF Award seats are released 353 days in advance.

Thanks, Futaris, I tried that but still need 24,000 points plus extra $$ .
Guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer.

You can always use points to go BNE-SYD and pay for the ROK-BNE leg, unlike Gladstone down the road you do have some good competition and that means the trip ex ROK is pretty cheap. BNE-SYD is 10K and no extra $$$

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 1200 points short for an upgrade in 3 weeks. Appreciate any thoughts on the cheapest/easiest way to accrue and have them posted in this period.

flying is not an option in the meantime. I have seen the topup instruction on the Qantas webpage but I will be accruing on AA for the flight so I don't know if it's possible to topup on a flight with AA number listed? I'm keen to follow the advice of others on this forum and keep my QF number as far away from the booking as possible (by upgrading my 'father'). Thanks.

Hi knasty,

You can only use points to upgrade QF numbered flights on QF metal. If you or your father are flying AA numbered flight, it won't be eligible for an upgrade.

Also, if flying is not an option, then the other way to accrue points is to spend on a credit card that gives QF FF points. If you have a 1:1 card, that is a spend of $1200, which can be quite easy to do in a month if all bills are paid on that CC.

Cheers.
