I'm a bargain hunter from way back, but am as fresh as a daisy when it comes to the world of frequent flyer schemes and benefits. I'm really interested in learning how to get better deals on travel, and travelling more to far away places.


I've stumbled across these forums and although some of the content is completely overwhelming at the moment, I'm sure once I get to know all of the acronyms my eyes will open to this whole different world of travel.

Well you are starting with a guaranteed great strategy. One that many do not do, but which always delivers a great return.

Thanks Buzzard and Limewood, some things are getting much clearer, and others are getting more complicated than I knew they could be.

Lucky 'Ask The Pilot' provides a good respite.

Well, a couple of months have passed and I have indeed read a brazillion threads...

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to AFF and its members for being such an amazing resource. When I first joined I was counting down the days until I could post a thread in the Request forum and have someone hold my hand for an upcoming trip. In hindsight I'm glad that there is a delay on access to that forum because it gave me time to do plenty of reading and I was eventually able to help myself, plus gain an insight into how this other world works.

So after two months from beginnings as a total novice, I have booked MrGlider and I SIN-ZRH-TXL then MUC-FRA-SIN all in J using Lifemiles points bought during their last share/transfer promotion, and by signing up to the Citibank fee free for life deal and paying for the Lifemiles and a few other things on it we were also able to get Krisflyer J award flights from PER-SIN in J to start the big trip. Then at the end a quick hop back from SIN-PER on Scoot for practically nothing to round it all off.

This site has really changed the way I look at flying. My first trip is perhaps a bit clunky but I'm still really pleased that I've had a go. So thanks again.


What's next? One day I will get to sit in a suite. One day.

I did have a bit of a baptism of fire with the LifeMiles call centre which almost put me off, but I got there in the end.
