I have been puzzling what to do with the new Mark Newson J amenity kits. A bit too thin for power cords and assorted detritus as the plugs don't fit well. I've been giving them to nieces & nephews who use them for pencils.
Any ideas what else they can be used for?
What do you do with airline amenity kit left overs?

Quite often a member will give them away to another member here who hasn’t (or doesn’t have the chance to) fly J or F.

I recently picked up some PJ’s in the QP in BNE, from notzac who’s from MEL, and I’m not sure where he got them in the first place :p

Somewhere between MEL and LAX..

Responding to the OP - leave them on the plane or throw them out afterwards if they're not wanted. Alternatively, chances are someone on AFF might want them (eBay is another possibility, but waaaay too much effort for me).

I grab the creams and toothpaste and leave the pack on the aircraft.

I use a BA one for various currencies, CX for leads and stuff and an old QF F one for mini travel speakers. The new Marc Newsom ones are pretty much no use for anything - too big (wide/long) and too small (short) to do any good.

I too just take what I want out of it and leave the rest behind.

I have no idea what Marc Newson intended for us to be able to do with the case. At least this design is a step up from the hard cased plastic things he put out a couple of years ago !

I use them for toiletries!
Then again I haven't flown J for about 5 years so I've got a collection of the cases from 2000-2005 sitting in the bottom of a cupboard. Handy when you get visitors who've forgotten stuff or kids who come for an impromptu sleep-over and haven't got a toothbrush!

As my travel toiletry bag wears out I simply replace it. They seem to last pretty well though.

Funny thing about amenity kits - they include all sorts of stuff you are never going to use and razors that would take your face off if you were desperate enough to use them, but they never include something essential for the traveller (as noted in another thread) - deodorant!!!

You should try the amenity kit for lost baggage owners, it does include Deodorant.

I give them to friends who are flying in Y.. if they want them....

THIS however is a bit more ... original..... the current NZ bags make outstanding spent brass containers for my pistol shooting activities....

The light blue zippered AC one makes an excellent case for my shooting glasses too...... you'd think it was purpose designed for that!

I use mine to store my portable HDD with USB cable. It also contains a LAN cable, a spare pen and mini sticky notes pad.

Well for me , not so much of an issue, as most of my recent J class travel has been on SQ. And there are no amenity kits! But I do have a few miscellaneous kits lying around in a box somewhere.

I'm obsessively pedantic about which products I permit to come into contact with my skin (I know, big surprise!), so I never even open them. My eye-shades are better than any I was ever offered by an airline, I have a particular brand of toothpaste that I prefer, and I don't require ear-plugs. If the kit is left on the seat, I ask the FA to remove it.

i dont like the shape of the QF ones (IMHO) they arent much use. (the contents are good though).. The CX ones on the other hand are perfect for all my laptop accessories.. Perfect size..

I even kept an ugly red AA J kit for use with electronics..

The most I love from the QF kits is the PJ's.. The F PJ's are nice..

I have a reasonable collection of J (QF) kits in my bathroom cupboard! I have J kits starting from the best ever Green Canvas type from approx 200/2001, the blue ones, the plastic ones and the zip up MN type - my fav. I have a couple of SIA J kits as well - basically socks, eye shades and a bag.

I keep my optical drive and a 12V/230V inverter in one and is left in my luggage (the inverter is sometimes removed in advance for a flight but less and less now), and I frequently keep one in my small Mont Blanc lappy bag (space is a premium) which stows myriad cords, a digital camera and spare SD cards, a laser mouse, a couple of pens and spare business cards without distorting the shape of my bag (which is important - ask QF009 if further explanation is required!).

I keep them all if space allows, and have given quite a number away in the past to basically whoever wants them.

Mr!

Great idea. I was about to put a whole lot of movies on a portable HDD as work has instituted a new policy regarding computer use which means hard drives have to be as clear as possible and nothing personal.

I only asked this question because I can't stand all the waste of things these days and probably because I've got hoarder tendencies.

I have kept most of the business class amenity kits I have received over the years in almost original condition.

The economy amenity kits (the ones that look like a pouch with a zipper) Qantas handed out until recently come in very handy and are still used regularly.

The QF whY kits are now essentially a plastic pencil case without a proper zipper - pretty awful actually. The previous version was much better.
Awful is just about the right description for the new QF economy amenity kits. I can't of anything useful for them except to hand them out as little gifts.
