American Airline Miles offer @50% discount

If anyone has a good handle of the value of a point / mile in various reward programs it is @cove ! If they are buying that is as good a recommendation you can get.

I note the offer expires on the 29th November; 5pm MEL/SYD, 2pm in PER.

What's good redemptions are there ex-Aus these days for AA miles? Used them for Etihad Apartment few years ago.

Our sons love them and their partners too.
If all else fails they can go PER -SYD-PER in J for a reasonable cost.

Well I did a search today on AA to help answer a new contributor in another thread.
So 2 searches.
BNE-HND and in october 23 up until 22/10 could get 2 J awards every day. Only once on what I could have made a direct flight. It was JL out of Sydney. The commonest availability was BNE-NAN-HND, Sometimes BNE-SYD-HKG-HND on CX.
But all of them cost 40K points and <$100 in taxes.

The second search was SIN-LHR. 1 award most days from April on either SIN-CMB -LHR or SIN-HKG-LHR.

But 24/12 2 J awards on BA16 and 27/12 and 29/12 2 J awards on BA12.
And 3 days in January 3 days with 2 J awards via DOH.
All cost 75K points + not very much in taxes.

I got a peak at where our youngsters are flying and they are mostly international flights.

Been trying to use AA miles to get to Europe from Perth next July for a while now, but nothing is coming up, all seems to have dried up

It is on again from this morning with up to 50% discount but AA has weighted it against small buyers.
The exchange rate is lousy so the AUD cost is higher than in previous years.
I have today purchased the Christmas presents despite the higher cost.
I am hopeful that Qatar gets more flights out of Perth for flights to Europe.

Well I looked at buying 150000 so a 40% discount. That would give us 2 J awards BKK to Europe. They cost 75000 points. That would cost $A5175 so a cost of a J seat is close to $A2600. For that I can buy a J seat on TK or AY. On EH just over $A3000 and QR about $A3600.
Of course then you don't have to worry about finding an award on the day you would like.
So I passed it up.

We tend to go from Perth, Adelaide or Sydney and the 50% off deal has worked for our group on American,Qatar and Qantas.
