Can someone please explain the Amex loyalty discounts or point me in the right direction.

I have been told that if you have been a customer with Amex for 10 years for example you are eligible for a 10% discount of reward purchases ( the longer you are a customer the higher the discount ). Is this correct?

Does it apply to all cards (Blue, Gold Plat)? Any does it apply to airline rewards?

Couldn't find any reference to it on the Amex site. Grateful if someone could confirm.

I have been a member (AMEX calls them members, not customers) for more than 10 years and I have not heard of this.

With Membership Rewards, when you have been a cardholder for defined periods of time (tiers are iirc 10yrs, 20yrs, 25yrs, 30yrs) on certain awards (note: NOT all awards) you can get various discounts on the number of points required to redeem. It is by "special offer" in the catalogue, not on ALL awards.

Will try and find a link.

You are looking at "Tenured Award" which is only on offered items.

An example:

Member 96-00 requires 73625 to redeem
Membership Rewards

Member Since 1990 requires 69750pts to redeem
Membership Rewards

member since 1970 requires 62000
Membership Rewards

The offers change from time to time, and are marked in the print catalogue that is sent out. They are difficult to find online.:-|

There can be some good discounts sometimes with this scheme. As I have been a card member since 2002 I have 2 years until they start to kick in.

Thanks for the info. Thought it existed. I have been a member since 2000, like like I am eligible. I will be interested in seeing what the % variance is on offered products...will investigate

I'm starting to show my age as I have been "Member Since 78" and although I have received information on these loyalty discounts I seem to recall they were not worth the points to purchase the items on sale and they were better used to transfer for flights.
