American Express Qantas Premium Card.

Hi all, I've been looking at the Amex Premium Qantas Card for an upcoming european trip.
80,000 Qantas point after an initial spend plus another potential 2,500.
Without reading all the fine print is this card an all right bet !

I value Qantas point at around 3 cents each based on a business class fare to Europe.
Factoring that, a 3% transaction fee (if thats what it is for Amex) will wipe out some of the benefits but I think I'll still be ahead.

What do you guys thing ?

Hi Viccam,

its probably not the best card to utilise for overseas spending (I use 28 degrees), unless you just want points and don't mind the 3%.
It is worth it for the 80000 QFF points sign-on bonus though, and 2 pts / $ spend (in Australia) for supermarkets and petrol.
Even if you cancel after receiving the 80k bonus, some time before the next annual fee is due.
Note - I think the spend for the bonus is $3000 over the first 3 months, and not just "initial spend".
You may want to double check this.

Hmmm not sure about its value for OS transactions, I would certainly favor the forex-fee-free 28degrees, BW or Citibank Plus for OS purchases. Locally though, a completely different prospect. Not to mention the great sign-on bonus

The Amex was just to pick up the points (the promotion) and use for hotel and airfares while over there. I always take a component of cash and cards and shopping is of no interest to me.

Don't forget a Citibank Plus account is an excellent option for getting cash out whilst you are OS. For me it has certainly offered the best combination of convenience and exchange rate in Europe. As it's a savings account you don't need to worry about registering a credit file hit either.

Indeed. The ultimate combo being the BW Plat and the Citiplus account for ATM withdrawals.
