With the companion AMEX cards facing a points 'haircut' with the latest interchange rules, does the 'group' believe AMEX will reintroduce a card which pays a flat 1.5 MR pts/$ spent.

When I had my Platinum Charge in 2012, it paid 1.5pts/$ and then AMEX changed the points earn to the current scheme and I dumped it. This change (along with other cards) was most likely to give the banks a clear run in the 1.5pts/$ space. With them vacating the space (CBA already has to some extent), AMEX could now fill the void.

It would certainly have my vote!

I used to have the QF Ultimate card and binned it when the current 3/2/1/0.5 scheme was introduced. That said, I have recently gone back to Amex.

Mine too.

I would also support this even though I've been moving back to Amex from bank issued amex.l so have been thinking of the bonus categories as a work around of sorts to reduced earn on general spend.
I think just retaining Amex's existing offering will be a very competitive offering given bank Amex (if they are retained) won't be able to beat Amex direct's current non special category 1:1 earn and big banks likely to nix their Amex offering.
I suspect most of Amex's new following is from people with bank issued Amex only. They might need something to entice them to keep "an" Amex in their wallet. 1.5ppd earn might encourage them to go direct.

I doubt they will. I mean competitively, why would they? As long as the Big4 are devaluing their products the direct-issued Amex cards will become more attractive. No need to increase points to do that.

The Business Accelerator at 2/$ works for me but the cap would obviously limiy nmay spenders

Does that work for ATO payments ??

For me, bonus suppliers (i.e. 3pp$ at supermarkets) are an easier way to generate points. However, restaurants and travel don't represent a large enough portion of my spend for those particular cards.

It would be good to see a bigger variety of bonus suppliers. A colleague has a Chase (I think) US card with no forex charges and 5pp$ at office supply stores. I understand situations like that leave very good opportunities for manufacturing spend :)
