Amex Australia - Centurion Card Eligibility

been more than 3 months since EOI.. didnt hear anything back..

guess its not happening lol
Me neither..

I'm wondering if getting a Business Plat charge card, and separating it all out would be meritorious?

My personal spend in calendar 23 was circa 300K, out of total spend of circa 2M, but presumably they can't tell what is what?

With 2 cards, and it all clearly separated out, I wonder if that would help...

I assume this was all over the phone?

The only aspect I would be interested in would be the extra earn rate which would offset the higher annual fee

My calculations are:
If we value 1 FF point in the pointy end at 3c - to be very conservative - YMMV; then
We earn 0.125 FF points extra (except for SQ and a couple of others)
AF difference = $6,500 - $1,450 (I'm assuming the personal Platinum Card and no sign up Bonus) = $5,050
Spend to cover extra AF $121,200

Doesn't sound like "very much". Are my calculations correct or am I out by a factor of 10?

Out by a zero i think!

My calculator suggests that if you spend circa $1.5M a year or more, you are absolutely better of with the Centurion..

$1.5M delivers an additional 187.5K QFF points... which at the low end offsets the additional AF

So AMEX's tardiness re this with me, is costing me circa 250,000 QFF points a year lol..

personally the higher earn rate and hotel statuses are the ones that interest me.

I'm at $225-250k/month but watches/cars/fine dining doesn't interest me. travel does, which happens on points so my personal spend is not very high. i do spend $ at hotels where I get status with the platinum card

Thanks thought I was out by a zero. That’s serious extra spend just to breakeven on the annual fee.

Shame there aren’t some extra incentives for high value transactions such as 1.5x for transactions > $5k.

Yeah I come out at $1.5m. I value each US point at A$0.015 (I know it is very low), but I have the added benefit of being able to transfer to my US amex which is even more value

Agree esp with SQ now at 3:1 for AU MR, that transfer to the US while it’s still allowed is very advantageous. Shame it’s once a year …

Yes it is very very annoying. I'm waiting for the transfer to complete as we speak

New data point - got my invitation today. About 4 months after I made an EOI using the chat function on the website.

I'm putting very little through my current Plat card compared to the crazy numbers I see here. Maybe AUD$40k/month. Spend categories are flights, hotels, dining. I've been an AMEX member since I think 2014.

Sign-up fee was waived on request. Annual fee value for me is marginal but I'll do it for a year and see how I feel.

Congrats! That's brilliant news!

Circa $500k a year is still significant spend!

Can I ask, was it business or personal spend?

I think the amex alogo perceives the 2 quite differently?

Congrats on this. If there are any new perks from the post a couple of months ago please let us know

No perks have been added since that last post. The “Centurion by Invitation” events were sent out recently, mostly dinner / wine evenings but also includes an AMG driving experience and an invitational golf day at Royal Melbourne Golf Club which looks like a bit of fun (for any avid golfer).
