Hi all,

I am contemplating getting the Amex Platinum Charge card, the wife and I will be going traveling next year and the FHR free nights and benefits would really pay for the card.

I did have a question to anyone who has this card, how do the hotel rates stack up compared to say the prices shown on the hotels website? (When on the FHR site I can see the hotels and benefits but as a non member I cant actually see the nightly rates).

Thanks in advance,
John.

Thanks albyd, been looking at it for the bonus points but never jumped on it. A free night in a decent hotel would have me submitting an application.

I wasnt aware Citi had a similar program, going to take a look now as I have one of their cards.

I haven't used this benefit yet. If this benefit is a key reason for getting the platinum charge card, also check out the Citi Prestige Visa. Has a similar hotel benefit for half the annual fee and similar perks and greater acceptance of Visa with similar points earn (if airline redemptions are your thing).

Thanks albyd, I have the Citi Signature card which doesnt come with that perk, cant really upgrade it yet as I signed up last month for the 70k points so need to wait for that to come in first.

Haven't used this benefit for a while but have in the past and the prices given are generally the hotel's base rates. Ie it's what the 'standard room' on their site would go for. You won't get advance purchase discounts etc though obviously since you get all the other benefits
