Hi All,

Normally before embarking on an overseas trip I always let my bank and credit card providers know the dates and countries so as not to get blocked whilst travelling.etc.
I've always called AMEX to let them know in the past, but today when I called up to let them know, they said there is no need to let them know anymore as their system automatically knows which country you are in and they will call or email if needed.

Has anyone else found this recently? I just hope they don't block me when I try to pay for a hotel etc!

amex were never able to stop blocks occurring through charges whilst travelling although they did put notes on in case the merchant called in for an approval - all of which is kind of irrelevant these days given pretty much everything is automatically processed.

if you get blocked due to a fraud warning on the account you'll have to wait until australian business hours as no one can take it off except the fraud team (which I found out the hard way recently).

that being said if youre a frequent traveler i doubt you would be blocked in the first place as your charges will not appear risky to the system (unless youre frequenting dodgy establishments :) )

Think i'll be good then, Sheraton and Shangri la are legit aren't they... ;)

I've never advised AMEX that I would be overseas, and never had a blocked transaction.

Neither have I on AMEX (been blocked), but have on VISA before, especially due to a typical AFFers routing pattern, where we could transit 3 or more countries in a day and use the card in each place it raises alarm bells on some of the less sophisticated systems out there like ANZ's 'overactive' falcon.
