Amex Plat 300k Threshold

Hi all,

Was just checking on Amex Plat balance and rewards points and noticed the rewards balance was about 10k less that I expected. When I looked at the points to see what was wrong, it had changed to 1 point per dollar when it hit 300k. I double checked the T&D and it does have that in there. I was completely gobsmacked.

I think it equates to about $135k with the mix of 2 & 3 points to hit 300k. For $1200 you want something that earns more points than that. Big doubts as to whether I will renew.

Is there something I am missing?

Does that 300k include sign up points? I just signed up recently. Might need to use the Platinum Reserve to keep earning on bonus categories of restaurants, travel and foreign purchases. But fiddly really.
I agree for $1200 shouldn't nickel & dime us & a bonus would be to include platinum Edge's fuel and supermarket bonus points so we only need one card (Platinum Charge) and one statement.

I transferred the bonus to SPG straight away and the change came as soon as I hit 300k point in the account (it actually was halfway through a hotel payment), so it definitely does not include the bonus.

Does that 300k include sign up points?.

Sign up bonii will not count towards it.

I noticed this today when looking up the T&C's as I was considering this card and wanted to see where the Accor benefit was at for 2016. 300k points is pretty ordinary given the annual fee, but reserve/edge companion is useful in this respect
