AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

Is Amex still offering the $400 travel credit on the companion Platinum Reserve for those that have held both cards since before they abandoned it for new customers? I haven't yet received my $400 travel credit since the last time I redeemed it very early in July 2023, and I had expected it to appear by now.

Yes. I received mine in March this year.

Yes, grandfathering still in effect. Got my Reserve travel credit in Feb 2024

However, if you are just coming upto the end of your 18 months be prepared for a rejection on this card particularly if you have closed other cards recently. Lot's of churners getting declined of late on this card. there is another thread on this, if you look out for it.

Yes I am days away from the 18 months but haven't actually closed any other cards recently - was about to though. Maybe I should not close them and cross my fingers.... I will go and look at the thread you mention

if it was me, i'd be leaving the other cards open.

Agreed.
I don’t think other card credit limits are as important when applying for a charge card that must be paid off each month.

Signed up this morning and approved instantly (used the link in @Gold Member 's old post). As suggested above, I didn't close any of the cards I had previously planned to prior

congrats, can i ask how long ago was your last cancellation? I'm hoping to re-apply before my wife's annual fee hits in March 25.

Amex was 18 months and 3 days, St G was 15 months
thanks, good information. hoping i'm successful next round which will be ~12 months after last app, 15 months after last card cancellation an ~22 months since other cancellations.

still a lot in my history but will see how i go early in 25.

Applied for additional cardholder. I have an email saying “We’ve approved your additional card holder” and another one 5 minutes later saying “we’ve received your application and it’s under review”. Any idea on how I interpret this?

From my experience the approval email will take precedence.

My daughter, SIL and toddler are traveling whY to the US soon - I organised a supplementary card and signed her up to PP so they can hopefully access lounges. On the Amex site it says they can access the centurion lounges - on a LAX lounge review I found it says the card needs to have had $75K spent on it during the previous 12 months

Can someone who has the card, and has accessed Centurion lounges in Oz and the US, please clarify ?

I understand that particular requirement is one only for the US version of the card, and not for the Australian version.

This page shows you the lounges you'll have access to, and the relevant access requirements and guest policy.

Just wondering if anyone has heard what the eligibility is now for Platinum Cards (personal)?

I've had mine since 2016 where it was min. $100k income

The website states

To apply for The Platinum Card you need to:
  • Have no history of bad debt or payment default
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold a long term visa
  • Agree to a credit check as part of your application

Also has anyone heard anything about the rumored 'Titanium Card'?

I applied earlier in the year for my wife, sub $50k salary and she was approved.

Isn't the Centurion "titanium"? Do you mean the rumored "Centurion lite" which will be the halfway house between Centurion for customers with a travel "bent" and customers who want to run up their points?

No idea, I’ve only heard of it as Titanium but maybe it’s centurion lite, any details?

I know about Centurion but have only read what others have read that there is likely to be a card between Platinum and Centurion. My expectation would be a US launch first. I don’t think we’ll get it here in AU for a long time. I might be wrong … YMMV.

Have you heard of what name it may have or what its rumored to be called?

I'm surprised they see a gap between the platinum and centurion cards. From what folks have posted about centurion benefits, it seems like a bit of a marginal increase for a massive jump in price.

I'm more concerned that this talked about new card is basically going to cost between the two but have the benefits of the current platinum card. Ie, devaluation of the platinum card or pay more to retain the current benefits.
