Important Information

We are sending you this offer as you have transferred rewards points earned on a credit or charge card to Qantas Points in the past. The applicable Card Partner pays Qantas in respect of Qantas Points issued in relation to a Card. Credit or charge card rewards points are offered by the relevant Card Partner and their reward program and accrue in accordance with the relevant Card Partner's reward program terms and conditions and the redemption of credit or charge card rewards points to Qantas Points is subject to those terms and conditions. You must be enrolled in the applicable reward program to transfer credit or charge card reward points to Qantas Points. Minimum thresholds and other restrictions (such as number of transfers in a particular period) may apply. Once credit or charge card rewards points are transferred to Qantas Points they are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program Terms and Conditions and cannot be reversed.

* This offer is available to the recipient of this email only. Bonus Qantas Points will only be awarded for transfers of credit or charge card reward points to Qantas Points that take place between 12:00am (AEST) 1 June and 11:59pm (AEST) 30 June 2016. Bonus Qantas Points will be rounded up to the nearest whole Qantas Point. Please allow up to 15 days after the offer has closed for the bonus Qantas Points to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account with the description 'Card Transfer Bonus'.

^ This offer is not applicable to any card products listed at qantas.com/cards, or other credit or charge products where the Card Partner automatically transfers your credit or charge card reward points to Qantas Points on your behalf on a monthly basis.

In my case this applies to the AMEX Plat Charge - which I've transferred from before. According to the text it is probably valid for the very few other cards that offer a transfer option to Qantas (ie non direct earn) too, but perhaps only if you've transferred previously. No sign-up link but the T&C's at the bottom seem to imply the offer is targeted.

EDIT: whughes3 was one step ahead of me. Mods feel free to combine the threads

If this doesn't highlight the huge arbitrage margins qantas works on - nothing will. With a 30% bonus it brings the value of a QFF point more in tune with every other major FF program in the world, but there outside of a bonus I see little value if you fly use points on international related flights.

Additionally, if you're in the position to transfer millions of points - you can often negotiate more than a 30% bonus with other airlines. Essentially 1m points is $13-16k of free money for Qantas once you take into consideration modelling around how points are used, expiry, cash float timing and flight value you're likely to give them in addition to points. Not to mention the BI and data that instantly gets generated to profile/segment you once a transfer takes place. This data is sold to third parties.

Say you have 5m points which could be transferred. This roughly translates into over $70k of revenue to QFF over the lifetime and is more than many platinum one members spend annually to obtain status. Essentially making you more valuable than a p1 member, even more so when factoring in low margins on flights compared to high margin on points creation.

If you know how to use QFF points for max value it's not a bad deal, but the loyalty business's side of me knows if you're points rich and are doing a speculative transfer - there are much better deals possible with other airlines.

Now if only Qantas would reduce their fuel fines on award bookings by about 80% and then they'd be much more in tune, but that's for another thread.

Back on topic though, even without transferring 1M points, this offer, and the recent similar offering from VA, shows if you can afford to hold off on transferring points, you can get much better value from warehousing points with AMEX or a bank CC program than you can get from the direct sweep cards.

Amen to that!

I'm starting to see the light....
