I've had a Platinum QF card for a few years. I just went to book a QF flight, & found Amex Travel charges $100 more than QF direct. When I asked Amex they said that's just how they work. I pointed out that the $450 credit is actually worth $350 on that basis, & the response was "we can't do anything different". I was disappointed that there was nothing on their web site to indicate they might charge more than an airline.

I understand that anyone can charge whatever they like, I'm surprised Amex do this though & it makes the card less valuable.

it really depends, ive seen them also be cheaper with business class fares through their portal via the IAP (qantas included). went to book some premium economy seats earlier this year and it was $2 cheaper than qf direct. pretty random IMO.
