I just noticed an interesting fact for a hotel stay that I booked via Amex Travel and used my annual travel credit form my Plat Edge Amex credit card to contribute to the payment. Naturally the rest of the booking payment went on my Amex card.
When I received the Tax Invoice from the hotel, it shows that the pre-payment was made by Agoda (no real surprise there), and was paid by Agoda Company Pte. Ltd. using a MasterCard. So Amex Travel is paying their hotel accounts using a MasterCard and credit card surcharge was added to the hotel invoice to Agoda.
Perhaps they are avoiding the higher surcharges that the hotel include for payments processed on Amex cards Or they are using a 28 degrees MasterCard to avoid foreign currency exchange rates/fees Agoda is based in Thailand).
Anyway, I had a chuckle when I saw Amex Travel booking was paid via MasterCard.
