Does anyone one know if you earn SC on the Amex Ultimate free QF return flight? I know that you can't earn points on them but would like to know if you get SC points, and if so, are they considered as discount economy or economy.

Thanks
An.

anchew,

They are discount economy. There is no entitlement to SC but it has been known to happen from time to time though I would not like to guess percentages.

Where does it state that in the Amex Ultimate PDS T&Cs? I couldn't find it anywhere. Of the three redemptions I have made over the past 3 years I have received full points and SCs according to my QFF status.

Should be in the document that discusses the flight/insurances. Is also on the Amex site:

2. The Qantas domestic return flight in Economy class between selected Australian capital cities is available for booking for Ultimate Cardmembers. All flights are subject to availability and neither American Express nor Qantas guarantee that seats or tickets will be available on the dates or at the times you may wish to fly. Seat availability may be limited to certain dates and/or flights and it may be more difficult to book seats around public holidays, school holidays or special events. Some flights may not have any seats available for redemption. Route availability is subject to change without notice. All travel is subject to the American Express Flight Offer Conditions, Qantas Fare Conditions and Qantas Conditions of Carriage. No Qantas Frequent Flyer points will be awarded for travel on these flights. Subject to Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Insurances and Domestic Return Flight Conditions.

On the ticket it states:

I cannot find the reference to SC's at the moment although what I said has been the case in the past. I am using these flights next weekend so will let you know what happens.

Amex has told me over the phone that the free flight will not earn points or status credits.

But obviously, as above, there must be some glitch in the system that has caused some people to earn anyway...

Perhaps if you add your FF number to the booking via QF website before the flight? Perhaps if you check in at QP? Who knows...

I'm yet to actually remember to use one so will see what happens when I do this year.

A little OT, but an interesting fact nevertheless relating to redemption of the free flight. Taking the free flight as PER-MEL return, when I look in my bookings it states Cost = $230.00 AUD.

I wonder if that's what Amex paid Qantas or is that Qantas' cost? Does it have any meaning at all?

Interesting... I have used Amex Corp travel before, when working for large multinational clients, and have noticed various different rates, and even special 'private fare class' bookings, which seem to be like flexi-savers but cheaper...

There are quite a few references to this issue on this forum. A search would indicate consistency; however, the term "let sleeping dogs lie" comes to mind ...

I booked PER-MEL return last year, and it showed up as $540 in my booking (which was probably right for O class fares)

Hi Guys - I flew SYD - ADL last week return on the free Amex flights and received both points and 15 status credits each way.

Checked with the Qantas Business class lounge front desk agent before flying who must have been sucking lemons before she came to work who replied when asked v nicely by me re status credits and points she said "ALL Flights get status credits and points - you should know that""

I then humbly retreated to the rear of the lounge and waited for my flight... :?:

They are officially documented as not receiving FF points. If you get them, consider it a bonus.

I thought that read somewhere here that you could pay $X and upgrade the fare to a points & SC earning fare?

Or was that the Amex Platinum Charge Card?

These book into O class which is not upgradeable; you can pay the extra to book into an upgradeable class (e.g. S or V).
