Hi there. I'm pretty new at this, and would really appreciate some of your advice please fellow flyers!

I've made an award booking for my mother in late Dec:
Melbourne - Hong Kong, Hong Kong - Vancouver using my Qantas FF points.

CX 134 8.50am Melb - 3.10pm HKG
CX 888 1.00am HKG - 8.20pm YVR

Horrid 10 hr stop over!

There's a connecting flight CX838 4.45pm HKG - YVR which I'm
DESPERATE to get her on, but there aren't any award seats of course :( I've been calling Qantas every day, and even tried Cathay.

Is there any hope or anything I could possibly try in the hope of getting
an X class ticket for that flight, as there is availability, just not for award flights?

Any suggestions please?
Many thanks, and happy travels!

Thanks for your reply :)

I'm very new at all this - I'm presuming the 87% is 87% full?

Do they ever open up more award seats closer to the departure date?

Thanks so much for your help!

87% refers to OTP, On Time Performance. 87% of flights get away on time, with an average delay of 20 minutes :)

I don't know what fare bucket CX use for their award seats.
Economy awards come from X, business from U and First from Z.

The loadings indicated in this thread, showing K2 and all below as 0 indicate low chance of additional economy award seats becoming available.
