Any pitfalls/opportunities on this flight combination?

I am due, in January, to fly MEL-SYD-SIN.

MEL-SYD is JQi economy, so scheduled to depart from T2 MEL 1150, arrive T1 SYD at 1315

SYD-SIN is QF (in J) scheduled to depart SYD at 1730. They are separate tickets.

I intend to travel hand luggage only (this is what I want to do, but not quite a given yet). Everything should go smoothly, but I'm keen to have contingency plans just in case, or do things more efficiently if possible.

I'm not sure of the process here. I can line up with everyone else at JQ MEL economy check-in, then exit customs/immigration at SYD with my D sticker on BP, then wander round to the SYD F check-in, and check myself in for SYD-SIN. That is what I anticipate happening.

Are there any alternatives? Should I do things differently? And are there any pitfalls (obviously, a long delay to the JQ flight may be an issue, but I figure/hope I could book myself onto a QF/DJ flight after somehow getting myself back out of the MEL T2 international area - i.e. back into the country).

Cheers

Unless I'm missing something, why not do on-line check-in at -24 hours for your SYD SIN. And there is the transfer desk after you de-plane in SYD.
Which is the QF/DJ flight you mention?

I suppose you could explain the situation to the JQi check-in rep, and ask for a boarding pass without a D sticker, that way you could file your departure card with Immigration in Melbourne, rather than the walk out, around, up & back in again to do it in Sydney. Or even visit QF check-in, in Melbourne, and ask them if they could check you in for both flights? (I mean you are prepared for a "no" and walk in Sydney anyway.)

If you are hand luggage only then OLCI for the QF flight seems best. Tell JQ you don't need the D sticker and show them your QF BP then transfer desk in SYD.

NB I've never done this so this is my best guess for what I would try to do.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to "exit the country" in MEL. You should be able to simply go through transit security in SYD without having to go through customs to simply go upstairs.

Check in for your QF flight in MEL, they may even be able to print out a JQ boarding pass for you at the same time (I know CBR is able to print out JQi boarding passes, although they are unable to change seat selections) so I don't see why QF checkin at MEL T2 wouldn't be able to do both in one go.

Thanks for the replies. OLCI never even crossed my mind () because I have never used it for international flights before.
Unsure which way I'll jump at the moment...decisions, decisions...:)
