Any point in OLCI for JQi MEL-SYD-MEL?

From the JQ website, it appears that even if I OLCI for these flights I'm still going to have to line up with everyone at the airport, with no dedicated OLCI line? Obviously they have to see ID and provide me with an orange 'D' for my BP but I was rather hoping there would be a separate (and shorter) line for OLCIs. I can't see that there is one.

Now I know there are quite a few here with considerable experience with checkin for these flights (;)), so can anyone confirm the above (or otherwise)? MEL-SYD and SYD-MEL flights are a couple of days apart (no check-in luggage).

Thanks

In all honesty, there is no point doing it.

I went down to MEL on the JQ35 - they don't accept the print out as your boarding pass. You have to do to the desk to get the orange D sticker and they give you a proper boarding pass. It might save them a few seconds looking for your booking, but that is it. I would say don't bother OLCI unless you want to get a better seat.

Can't remember in MEL but in SYD there is a much shorter OLCI line you can access. Definitely worth it.

Thanks all...guess I'll do it and see what eventuates. Worst case is I'll just be in the long line as if i hadn't. :)

There's a lot of info & tips on the following thread:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ram/strategy-get-early-jq-check-32055-16.html

This came about when people did Flounge runs & wanted to maximise lounge time ie obtain boarding pass at another port eg if flying BNE/SYD on QF then JQ35 SYD/MEL. The common theme was how do I obtain by JQ35 boarding pass so I don't have to wait until three hours before at JQ checkin.

Anat0l, Bundy Bear & myself did QF8 to JQ35 when the JQ flight was in the same pnr as the QF flight. When I did QF OLCI I was able to select both flights to checkin so printed them out at home. I had a spare orange 'D' sticker which I affixed to the JQ35 boarding pass only as I was classed as an international transit pax so as not disembarking in SYD I did not need a 'D' sticker on the BNE/SYD one.

BB also did OLCI but Anat0l went to the QF checkin counters @ BIT & issued both his boarding passes.

QF have an IATCI agreement to issue JQi boarding passes but not JQd & this can only be done in the QF checkin system if the JQi flight is preceeded by a QFd or QFi flight ie you can't book JQ35 direct through JQ then ask QF for the boarding pass as JQ use the Navitaire system for checkin. QF would only have access to Navitaire if they had the contract to do checkin for JQ at the nominated port.

Some other AFFers were flying QF501 BNE/SYD (QF8 got in too 'late' for them ) & although they didn't get the JQ boarding passes it must have generated a message to JQ because when they went to JQ checkin at BNE domestic who said "oh you're all showing as having checked in already". They were happy to reprint to boarding passes but were a tad concerned because they didn't have the required 'D' stickers but they seemed okay with the idea after everyone produced their own 'D' stickers - it pays to have a few spares.

Cheers obb! As it turned check in was swift (OLCI line empty, other line almost empty), but 40 minutes for security and immi, both of which were absolutely heaving. Nice brekky and a couple of glasses of French fizz helped soothe me. My return flight is Sunday so we'll see what eventuates with that.

Was that a 40 minute wait even using the dedicated Domestic queue?

The "Domestic" queues do not always operate at MEL or SYD these days - without an express card you queue with the masses and when is not operating.

Yes, I looked for a Dom queue as I had vague memories of using one before, but there were no signs in one of the areas, and just one in the other, directing D pax in with everyone else (I can't recall which was which now). There was a sign on the wall of security directing eligible pax down the side, APEC, Crew etc. and there appeared to be one 'group' blacked out - maybe Dom pax?

All the 'D' signs are covered over in MEL and you are placed in the normal queue.

Where do you guys get the spare 'D' stickers from?

At SYD last week I was traveling to ADL on a D sticker. I noticed that there was a sign for 'D' passengers, but that the counter it was pointing to was unmanned and blocked off. I asked a nearby officer where I was supposed to line up. He put me near the front of a queue. I wasn't trying to be put to the front - I just wasn't sure if I'd missed the proper D section somehow.
