anyone been able to use velocity points for partner flights

I've been reading that not many (if any) people have had success using their velocity points to book flights with EK, MH etc

With they downturn and lots of empty seat, I'm wondering if anyone has had some success lately.

I'm interested s I have a stash of points with citibank to trasnfer and wondering if QF will get them or i'll go with velocity as I'd nearly have enough points for a MH return flight to KL.

At least with QF i've never had a prob with booking reward flights.

so far it's not looking good on beign able to actually book a flight with Velocity points.

I would have thouht QF's rick with direct earn cards would hve been an incentive to Velocity to sort these issues out.

About 12 months ago I could have obtained flights SIN-KUL return on MH for about 8K velocity points return IIRC. As it turned out I didn't end up getting the fares.

I have recently also checked MEL-SIN on EK, MEL-KUL and KUL-SIN on MH using velocity points. The short answer to your question - is yes I could have used points on partner airlines.

However, the quotes provided were for anyseat flights, not (to use QF terminology) "classic" rewards, and therefore came at a high price. To me they did not represent good value and therefore did not book (instead I transferred some pts to MH and got MEL-KUL return in business class for 37.5K - and paid $30 or so for a Tiger flight KUL-SIN).

yes, it seems that either you have to get an anyseat reward, which is fine if you want to travel in a peak period, but it's disappointing that the lower point seats seem to be like the proverbial hen's teeth.
