I was onboard BA589 LIN-LHR on December 10. We were moved to the 1.15pm which then ended up having more of a delay so back onto BA589 for the 2.15 departure. We sat on the tarmac for 90 mins before taking off then arriving into UK airspace to hear that LHR closed the airspace and no more BA flights were getting in.
As such, we were diverted to Bournemouth at 5.30pm where we eventually disembarked at 8.30pm before boarding coaches to LHR. The captain and crew were excellent and profusely apologised for his companies incompetence and disorganisation.
I just received a voucher for 100 pounds off a future booking and FT suggests those on longhaul affected got 300 off future bookings.
Was anyone else flying over the weekend and got similar compensation.
As a side note, I just started up a compensation form 50 mins before receiving this email.
** Luckily my BA870 to BUD on Dec 11 was one of the few intra-Europes to operate as scheduled. Joys of European winter travel I guess.
