For two days now, every time I go in to try to select a seat, my booking loads fine, but then when I hit select seats, I just get a blank page.

REALLY frustrating. I thought it might be just internet explorer, but tried from the ipad, same thing there.

Mind you, considering last Monday they did a last minute change from a 767-300 to a 737-400, but left me in my carefully-selected 24B seat, which instead of being second row of economy on the left-hand aisle was suddenly second-LAST row of economy in a middle seat - thanks Qantas, way to look after your frequent flyers - perhaps I'm better off! :(

No, just you- working fine on a secure IE, iPad safari and Chrome.

Odd that the 763 change was to a 734- when they do that for QF804 it's usually to a 738.

I've just gone in and checke another booking - which is working fine. It must just have been that particular booking - really annoying, but flight this afternoon seat allocation worked when I checked in, so flight on Monday may work too...

I would suggest you call qantas, tell them that it's not working and ask them to select a seat for you.

great minds think alike - I already did!

And they are getting a letter about last Monday's flight too - I really resent ending up down the back in the middle for no good reason.

They clearly had to re-do everyone's seat allocation for the new config, they should take FF status into account.

Learning from the experience on AFF (thanks JohnK) on my rare 767 flights I always select a J/K seat or a seat that isnt on a 737. That helps to avoid this problem.

I have been able to select my seats with no problem for my upcoming trips

It's not just you or your particular flight.

I can open my booking and change my seats for my flight to India scheduled for next week, but two days ago I booked my next rounds of flights out to the end of October (2 to India, 1 to USA, 1 to China).

For all of them the booking page will open, I can select my ADL-SYD or ADL-MEL seat but when it gets to the international sector it comes up with an error advising the seat map is unavailable.

that is a really good tip, thank you!

Qantas were very helpful when I called, and selected a seat for me and also said they would get IT to look at the issue so I can go in and play around with it over the weekend in the hopes of getting a better seat!

Given the regularity with which the flight to which Rebekkap refers to is subjected to (very) last minute equipment change where yield issues require, best solution is an exit row.

763- 11 exit row seats. 734 or 73H- 12 exit row seats.

Bob, as they say, is your mother's brother.

Avoiding a Bravo or an Echo seat is then down to status, FF profile, or first in, best dressed (eg when you convert an assistance card from online or other check-in into a boarding pass).

Yes but on the larger plane that's a good 15 rows behind where I can usually nab a seat, which gets me off the plane a lot faster and means the dreaded taxi queue is (slightly) shorter.

I'm seriously considering switching to Virgin, which leaves five minutes earlier and in theory lands earlier.

I'll be platinum after Monday's flight back, and then there's nothing more in it for me as I won't make the new super plat before my SCs expire. No reason not to fly Qantas on Fridays as the flight time works better for me, Virgin on Mondays.

Exit row on the 763s is at row 34/5. The major downside is that on these morning services you're relatively unlikely (maybe a third of the time) to have a seat free next to you.

Y starts at 23. Even on a quiet Monday morning, CL or- for lack of a better term- senior WPs lock anywhere from the first row to the first two or three.

So while it's not a preferred option- I'd prefer 23A/K every day of the week- it's a more manageable or predictable one.

On the DJ flight, try your luck. I've taken it about fifteen times or so.

The on-time performance is pretty sketchy, and as is perennially the case with DJ, if they want to do an equipment change for whatever reason, you'll be stuck there for hours (whereas QF are pretty good at pulling 734s/Hs out of a hat at major ports on the eastern seaboard). The check-in is less crowded. The lounge isn't as good. The coffee's better. Much of a muchness, but QF is the safer option.

Only on the OG's. For the ZX's it is row 43, and much nicer on the ZX's as well.

I rang Qantas WP line just now, explained the problem and requested my seats over the phone.

I also said other people on AFF were having the same issue - they said they would make it a priority 1 for IT to fix.... :D

Well I was in row 24, so that's still a good ten rows' difference! But yes, take your point about predictability!

Aha! It *wasn't* just me!

In my experience the issue occurs to any domestic booking where there has been an equipment change. I started a thread sometime last month that 3 of my bookings were having the same issues. But my issue is that I can see the seat map, see that there is a seat already allocated by someone, choose another seat and then get an error when trying to save the selected seats. Called Qantas and apparently I was already allocated in the initial allocated seat shown on screen.

I usually choose 26JK and try to avoid 25JK as some 767s do not have row 25. Only problem with this is one is that you are then left without a seat allocation.

By the way I believe if there has been an equipment change on domestic flights outside the T-24 hour mark then only allocated seats that exist on the new aircraft configuration are transferred across. They do not do any automatic allocation of seats.

Every so often I check the next 2-3 bookings and if missing an allocated seat then I know the aircraft configuraition has changed and select a new seat.

Mine is a different problem in that in all 3 bookings I can select the ADL-MEL or ADL-SYD sector, but as soon as I move to the next flight in each booking (all 3 are international sectors; 12 Sep QF093, 26 Sep QF127, 09 Oct QF127) the message "Not able to display seat map" appears, and I only have the preference of aisle or window.

I was able to select an International seat this morning, (any seat reward) but my Travel Agent who is handling the 'paid' seat cant see the seat map. I just tried again and can select a seat on the first booking, but not the paid booking. Something is happening.
