Anyone flown VA SYD-LAX recently?

Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone has flown VA SYD-LAX recently?

I see they are now arriving into T5 instead of TBIT and am interested to hear how things are going with that. What are the facilities like in T5?

I flew VA SYD-LAX on Christmas Day.

We landed on time and everything was a breeze! Baggage & immigration were really quick and I think it was just over 30 minutes from landing until we were out of the terminal.

T5 is nice, although we had a fair walk from the gate to baggage collection but that was good after a 14 hour flight.

T3 coming back was not as nice (Alaska lounge is cough) so I am looking forward to them moving everything over to T5 in future.

Wow...30mins! I don't think I've ever gotten through that quick, but I'm usually way up the back in economy and one of the last off lol.

I've got to say that the nice thing is that although there are less customs agents to process everyone, there are also many less people to process. I flew SYD-LAX a couple of days before Christmas and we were the only plane load in T5 immigration. There was a holding room where we were divided into locals and visitors and then each group was led into the processing area. It was very quick - I think the big factors that help the process go quickly is that there are generally very few issues with Australian visas and also less language barriers. I've been stuck behind a full plane load or two from non-english speaking countries several times in TBIT and it really can hold up the process.

Just before Christmas last year....we were about 10th off the plane and were in the car 20 minutes later....crazy quick for LAX.....

Looks like things are much better over at T5. But then again...anything would have to be better than TBIT right lol?
