Anyone had experience with Etihad Upgrade Auction?

My wife are flying Etihad Business to Europe next March. When we did the same 10 years I was able to upgrade to First at checkin for $800 each, and was planning to ask the same question this time around.
I see on their website they now have an auction system two days out.
Has anyone done this? How did it go?

I don't think the equipment they're flying to SYD and MEL right now (mix of 77W and 789), has an F cabin. If your onward European port does (LHR and GVA I think?) you might be able to upgrade but I don't have any experience with an auction system on EY.

You’re right, there are no F cabins out of MEL now, but who knows what will happen before we fly in March. It looks like all the other legs do though. The A380 ones certainly do.
