Hi all at the ff community.
I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on QF fares.
I often fly SYD/PER in O class and the price seems to be fairly steady apart from some specials.
When trying to book SYD/PER on Dec 15, 2009, O class is available according to Expertflyer on QF581 as well as QF577 (amongst others). However, the Qantas website shows pricing of $289 for the former and $244 for the latter.
Any idea why both flights cost different amounts although both appear to be in O class? More or less curious as I cant seem to figure it out.

Cheers guys,
Michael.

According to Expertflyer, the availability in E is 0 for all flights mentioned, so dont think there is an obvious relationship...

I did the "Right-Click,View Source" trick. That is what it showed me.

Airlines can vary the class availability depending on several factors.

Region and Country of sale can be two of these factors.

E/F shows a view of availability as Qantas want to sell in USA. This can be different for sales in Oz. It could very well be that Qantas only wish to sell E class within Oz and not elsewhere for these flights.

If an Oz based travel agent checked availability they would likely be seeing E class.

I did the "Right-Click,View Source" trick. That is what it showed me.

Thanks guys, your help is really appreciated and I now know where I stand with regards to QF fares and how they work.

Cheerio,
Michael.

There's definately E Class available on QF577 as per GAL below:

SYD PER 1200 1355 QF 577 J9 D9 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9
N9 Q9 O9 XC E5

Thanks guys for all your help and it is good to know that some people at least seem to be able to see through the vast bushland of fares...
On a different matter, I was wondering if I am making mistakes or if there is really no availability on the following:

I am trying to book a flight originating from LHR to PER for departure in Sep 09 in Economy return in October.
The Qantas UK website shows that flights in that period would cost (from) GBP733 inc. taxes and charges. However, I cannot seem to find a single flight from LHR to PER in the period mentioned (Aug 15-Oct 31 for departure) on the Qantas website. Is it possible that every single flight has sold out all the cheap booking classes? This also seems to happen for the near future flights on the same route that are advertised for GBP489 - no single flight at that price.
The whole thing seems to work for LHR <-> SYD, it is just PER that seems to be a problem...

Sorry if I annoy everyone with that...

Are you being flexible with dates or you want specific dates?

I just tried LHR-SIN-PER return for travel 17 September and return 17 October and the airfare is GBP783. There appear to be plenty of "sale" airfares available. I have not tried other days....

BA allows mixed booking classes, eg V one way and K the other.
QF does not, you need availability on the same booking class both ways for the fare to calculate generally.

One reason i often book via BA and not QF on some routes.

Not sure about QF AUS, but QF SIN does. I have had V one way and M the other a few times.

With QF charging from GBP733 , you might like to consider SQ at GBP399 on their current sale

If you have access to a tool like expertflyer, you might find it easier to find flights at the GBP733 price ; you may find that putting a nights stop in SIN may assist in availability

The GBP733 fare is GBP456 (plus tax ) and books in O class ( OJBBGB )

I have had a look and can see O class available on the 13th Sept ( QF10 connect to QF 78 ) to PER and on the 15th BA11 connect to BA7378/ QF78

On the way back QF77 connect to Qf9 on the 13th oct

so there is availability around, but not every day

Dave
